Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
2) I have no need for a position statement, as I have pointed out that me and Jake actually agree... but for some reason he disagreed. However, as I have pointed out, we actually agree and have the same points. Please write one anyway. I'm a little confused as to whatr your position is on the quest...

Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
Why would you do this at all? ... In order to perform the exact task that I explicitly explained the narrative was designed for - to indicate what the dialogue appeared to be. It was, in fact, absolutely necessary to make that statement implied, otherwise it would be ludicrous to have Party B later...

Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
Okay, I'm an admin, and admins are moderators, so let me pull my best Jim Lehrer and try to moderate this debate. I'm going to suggest that the two sides step back and focus on the question at hand, which I define as: How long can a game be sustained without a 'hook'? My own definition of "hoo...

Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
Quote: Party A: "It's good for there to be a hook at the beginning of the story. Good fiction will almost always do this." Party B: "Book-X doesn't have its hook until a few chapters in, [and it's still good fiction], therefore it is not required for good fiction to have a hook at th...

Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
1) Yes, there is a huge point being missed here. A point that was reiterated many times and made quite clear. And it is being missed by you. 2) I think you have it totally wrong. Maybe you didn't see how there was no indication of my opinion about American Psycho, I just used the structure of the b...

Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
I backed up my response to your false accusation with facts. No. For one thing, I had not actually made any accusations against you in the post to which you were replying. Pay attention. And my own accusation may only be false because Jake said two different things in the same post, which is not on...

Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
His opinion on the book doesn't make his point any less valid, so I'm not sure what that had to do with anything. He provided an explanation on the beginning of the book, what it leads into and where the hook actually is, but never tried to change the facts using his own opinion. He didn't even bri...

Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
And if, as you say, you never said the book was good, what was the point of bringing it up as an example? His opinion on the book doesn't make his point any less valid, so I'm not sure what that had to do with anything. He provided an explanation on the beginning of the book, what it leads into and...

Re: THE FIRST ARGUMENT EVER
If things like the general setting, superficial character personalities or "Hi I'm a generic dude" qualify as hooks(I'm not necessarily arguing they don't), then what does not count as a hook? The hook is a thing which you put into a story early on to demonstrate to the reader that the st...
Re: No Boys Allowed! the game
Wow, I wasn't even trolling, but because you guys decided to discuss whether or not I was trolling for 3 pages, you have now successfully trolled yourselves. "I do, to an extent understand what you mean by "doesn't start off with a hook" and I agree that everyone has a right to their ...
Re: No Boys Allowed! the game
...I've always thought his first post made his identity painfully clear... Did anyone else have a guess, or was it just me? Nah, I bet he agrees with his opinions. Maybe he's afraid of being proven wrong and his "wrongness" being known widely on the boards? Or maybe he just doesn't want t...

Re: character images overlap by default (?)
You know, you could just read the Ren'Py Quickstart guide, which answers your questions. Namely this section: The first part of an image name is the image tag. If an image is being shown, and another image with the same tag is on the screen, then the image that's on the screen is replaced with the o...
