Re: Tips on making a visual novel team in REAL LIFE?

Hm, or like that.
I just found it sounded a bit in your post as if it simply wouldn't work online (as in generally, not for you), so I found myself to have to argue against that.
But sorry, if I misjudged your post there :)

Re: Tips on making a visual novel team in REAL LIFE?

That is true but when leadership comes in, its always better to have very one around you so you know that no one is slacking off at the work when you pay them :3 I take a example that I am very familiar with to argue against this: Website RPGs. Be it the board version where people type novel-like R...

Re: Tips on making a visual novel team in REAL LIFE?

You might try to first get contact over the internet. I mean, if you aren't student of a school or university with art, music, design, video game or simliar faculties, then the chances are very low, that you will find a whole team by clicking your fingers. Try to get on board that are oriented towar...

Re: Character Name Tag or Picture

I usually also only have the name tag.
Sometimes, I prefer the MC to have his image next to the text, but only because I came across quite a few games that had the game in "1st person view", so it was actually almost necessary, to know what the MC was feeling, what he looked like, etc.

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...

Missed a extremly important class today. Not only that, but the teacher had reminded me five times this and the past week to attend it. Thanks to a power blackout, my alarm clock reseted and I overslept - thus missing my class. Someone please just kill me, I am not able to take any more shit right n...

Re: Visual Novels and semi-abstract art?

I see no reason against such things. Looking at most indie games of today, the art differs greatly. The games I mean aren't VNs, but I still see no trouble with that, as art is a choice that rarely influences the actual game, more the atmosphere. Examples: Gretel & Hansel Knock Knock Neverending...

Re: To Commercial or Not To Commercial?

Personally, I think you should have done some non-commercial games before going commercial, so people know what kind of story you will give them and if it will suit their taste. You have to provide art examples, if the game is long, then a working on a trailer might also be a idea, to attract more p...

Re: Older characters as romance options

Also, especially in Shonen-Ai and Yaoi games, there is a big love for older men. Even in games that aim at the topic of "student falls in love" there is often the option to flirt with either a teacher or a student that does look a lot older in comparison. Not to mention those outside that ...

Re: Older characters as romance options

I am sure, if they are good looking in one way or another, they will get a positive feedback :) (I am making examples with female charas here, since I am not so well-informed about VNs with male charas) I mean, look at Rune Factory Frontier. There is a possible love interest called Eunice, looking l...

Re: Routes or no routes

Well, if you are good with variables, then you can actually give the opportunity to "switch" at/until one point. The variables could then define how the next lover would feel about being "second" and how the old love would feel (if your first route was already quite deep, then bo...

Re: Achievements

It sounds like most of you are talking about something a little more involved but I wanted to point out that there are already a lot of VNs which have achievement-like rewards and players seem to like them. Well, the CGs are a common reward in the VN area. They are also more or less like a present,...

Achievements

I fully realize that most people here make pure VNs and that those rarely have any decision (or even topic) that allows a wide variety of achievements. But Ren'Py can also make stuff like Click & Point, there could be VNs in the style of "The Walking Dead" or "The Stanley Parable&...

Re: Replay value in a visual novel

I agree with PyTom about the two types of games. I even have good examples. For the game-like VNs, you can just take pretty much every dating game ever. Some people are of course happy with getting that one character that they like. You will almost NEVER get them to replay ANYTHING. They play as far...

Re: Good Endings, Bad Endings, True Endings, False Endings

I honestly think, it depends on the game. Yeah, it is often totally unfair and even unnecessary. What, I am supposed to date my childhood friend to get the true ending? Ever thought about the possibility, that I dislike that person, but find that karate kid with the slightly cold attitude totally aw...

Re: Which first? Learning Ren'Py or creating chara/concept A

Well, you should have a idea of your game. You don't need to have the full sketchbook full of art yet, but you should have an idea of what you want to have. After that, it depends. If you are EXTREMLY weak on programming, you should at least play around with Ren'Py, to see if you can actually do it....
