Re: Inverness Nights [BxB/historical fantasy] [commercial]
Hi all! It's a little under six months on from release, so I've written up a post-mortem on the project which I think might be of interest to other developers. It's mostly focused on marketing for commercial visual novels, but it also has some points on hiring artists and editing/planning writing. Y...

In actuality, Tris is...

Re: VN devs at GDC 2017?
I'm going along! Last year we had a VN dev meet on the Friday, which was organised over twitter. I don't know if it's on the cards yet this year since last year it seemed like it'd been loosely planned closer to the date, but if it looks like there'll be a decent number of us around the event, it'd ...

Re: Inverness Nights [BxB/history/fantasy] [DEMO]
Googaboga -- thank you! I hope that if you get or have gotten the chance, it's a good time. :) --- Oookay so, better part of a month on from the demo release. I've been chipping at BGs still. Someday I'll see the light at the end of the background tunnel, I'm sure... All four of these're WIPs, most ...

Re: Diverse Character Dilemma
This statement has had me confused for a while now; I'm getting mixed messages here. Suppose my cast wasn't very diverse yet and I wanted to "not be lazy," or maybe I just want to add a gay character just because it seems like it would help the story. As a writer, I prefer to place my cha...

Re: Diverse Character Dilemma
I think it's definitely better to try and diversify your characters -- even if we cut the emotional/audience side out of the decision, having characters show variety in gender, culture, physique, age, class, whatever else helps prevent your cast from being interchangeable. Personality/plot role are ...

Re: Kill Your Refrigerator [VN][Horror][Comedy][Short]
Played through to all the ends; that was beautiful. Per usual for your games I had a lot of laughs, but the bit about reverse fridge-speak was the best (possibly because I'm in the southern hemisphere). Which ending did you reach first? I fled to Aussie first! It was a good plan, until it wasn't. If...

Re: Inverness Nights [BxB/history/fantasy]
Haa haa haa 'in the next few weeks', oh, you precious spring flower, you naive child, you fool. Long time no see, LSF! Despite my absence I've actually been hard at work on IN the past four months, mostly fumbling through backgrounds and spending much longer on them than anticipated. Oh, the woes of...

Re: Any Tips for Improving Your VN Writing?
I'd agree with Sundownkid -- read the classic novels for your genre, to start with, since they'll show you the basic tropes, themes, and writing style your work is drawing from. For instance, if you're writing a story about people being murdered one-by-one in a closed setting, you'd probably want to...

Re: Banality Man [VN][Comedy][Cartoon][Pop Culture][NaNo16]
I just played through all the endings. Mon dieu. Immediately, this is one of my favourite VNs. I love the various ways Banality Man can undermine himself, and how ridiculous some of the endings got. The sprite animations were fun, and the Banjo-Kazooie-esque noises the characters made while talking ...

Re: What do you with a set of characters but no story?
If you have a group of pre-created characters you're adamant about building a VN around, the best approach is probably going to be picking one or two, figuring out what their main goal/problem is, and making that goal/problem the plot of the story (maybe they're in trouble with their mentor and they...
