Re: Downloadable Games are Important
Short run physical copies for anime conventions are good. The market research is worth it as you'll figure out a lot about the market. Also, nearly anything worth buying sells at anime conventions from the impressions I get from store owners.

Wow... this could be really useful. Combining this with hashtags and achievements would be really cool.

Re: Downloadable Games are Important
As for all those people who just HAVE to have some sort of "Physical" copy. They need to wake up and smell the software. Software isn't real, it's abstract. It's not like normal property. You can't make and modify an infinite amount of copies of real physical objects. These unique propert...

Re: Sai's Background Workshop
Think about how a car is 3 seats wide and a bus is 5 seats wide... no spaces. In the picture you have space, seat, space, 3 seats, space, seat. It looks like the bus would take up two lanes. Edit: Sorry... that's the side of the train right? Then having 3 seats going along the width of the train wou...

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
Wait, you LIKE the idea of demos for downloadables being released on NovelStream? Awesome. It seems to me it makes sense from their point of view; what they need is a critical mass of games which attract players to their site and get people to recognise their brand, so that further developers can b...

PyTom said something about textures having one extra pixel or something right? Does that something to do with it?

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
But I mean it's pretty impossible to ask an editor to cache the entire media browser. So you can't get totally full functionality. And I'm not sure if there's a point to local dev if you can't add media? I think it can be fair you disable adding images offline. I assume it would be mostly text edit...

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
I'll just say what I think is possible with HTML5. I might be wrong if some of the people that pitched to me HTML5 exaggerated. Also, I don't know if this implemented in NovelStream. It's possible with HTML5 to save a lot of assets offline so that it works if you happen to go in a subway tunnel with...

I shouldn't be complaining too much about the money thing. Canada has a very good way of getting around labour costs if I'm a corporation.
Everyone is watching how will Shira-Oka turn out. It will definately be interesting to see.

Re: So that's why high school is so popular in VNs?
To Heart probably triggered the wave. I heard it was one of the first VNs that featured a slice of life story set in high school and a sad story for one of the characters. Everything else at the time was just sexual romps. Then everyone started to do the "Crying Game" thing of To Heart lik...

Re: Shira Oka demo
I actually meant the expectations in different market segments as opposed to standards. Not just to the Tokimeki Memorial standards either. I have seen better flip-flap animation in higher quality. Noel from Flying Shrine (makers of Cross Channel) looks like it has good quality lip-flap. But Shira-O...

@Counter Arts First impressions: It feels like comparing Windows Movie Maker to Adobe Premier. It's good for beginners and standard Visual Novels. I would definitely disagree with that. :D This is like Windows Movie Maker vs DOS. Now now... let's remember I'm the guy who tries to get the most of hi...

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
In general I think VNs have a longer shelf-life when compared to a lot of video games in general. Now having that platform as something you can release a demo on is something that would be very interesting.

Re: Shira Oka demo
For me it's hard to gauge what the market standards are since I am exposed to a lot of visual novels and do a lot of research on various game features. The wider market doesn't do that. If the current visual novel/dating-sim/bishoujo market is small then that's a lot of people who don't have that st...
