GIT and SVN
I kinda find myself ignorant here, since I've never been part of a large programming group before. So here's the scenario: 3 countries in 3 continents, and they're finding SVN to be too slow. So they're thinking of using GIT. I think Ren'Py uses github, so I'm looking into that. But Bitbucket looks ...

Re: Ten Years of Ren'Py
I'm playing Danganronpa now and aside from the 3D exploration scenes and Aftereffects-edited cutscenes, the entire game can be done in Ren'Py. The characters are simple and cel-shaded, the backgrounds could have been done in SketchUp, and the UI is clean. Somebody better tell Kotaro Uchikoshi of 999...

Re: What's you opinion on screen resolution?
I disagree most vehemently. All my most memorable gaming memories were done in glorious 320x240. Now it's 400x240 (not counting "3D" effect)

Re: Do you make a living of your games?
There's actually more money now making engines and assets for people who want to make games. I actually came across a few entities on the Unity Asset store whose business plan was precisely utilizing the asset store. I mean, who would you rather target? The consumer who's already inundated with F2P ...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
I just realized something: Lower resolution is better. How did I come into this conclusion? By browsing hentai galleries... like I would see a thumbnail that looked appealing, but when when I click on it, it's like bah! The anatomy sucks! So essentially what attracted me was the overall color and co...

8GB ram I recommend you make that at least 16... trust me, it's for your own sanity. ... to make a smartphone game? Seriously? There's no server in the office with more than 8GB RAM and several still have 2GB. They're even virtual hosts. It used to be that you could pool together scripts and open s...

Re: Get that thing off your chest... Now...
So apparently I need to upgrade from a laptop with Intel graphics to a workstation with 8GB ram and Nvidia card just to run the new Unity 4.3 with the new 2D sprite functionality. Yes, just to make mobile 2D games that can be sold for at most $2. Hilarious. On the other hand, gaining Unity experienc...

Re: Do you make a living of your games?
Frankly you shouldn't be looking at VN devs, especially western devs. Majority are hobbyists, and the few that actually earn money work from their bedrooms. You should look for another mobile game company, there should be plenty in France. I'm sure some make point and click adventures and other stor...

Re: Music for Visual Novel
A lifetime license for a track cost anywhere like $21 or $35. Having worked with a musician once before trying to emulate a Japanese feel, you can't go wrong with actual Japanese musicians. I also could have sworn GUST may have used some of their sound engineers. Really getting Atelier / Ar Tonelico...

Re: Aurora Fall
It was supposed to have literally thousands of pictures (mostly photographs). The character art for that is complete (I have it backed up). Though alas, the first prototype, which was awesome, is probably lost forever. The original soundtrack eventually made its way to Umeda Sky, to give way to pure...

Re: List (or filter) of visual novels by quality?(DIWIC?)
Even my shittiest projects kept me awake until 4:00am on weekday nights. My reason for reduced output in recent years is the prospect of not having any sleep at all, which simply won't do. I originally came into the scene because it looked fun and seemed workable. Now it's just like the rest of the ...

I am so utterly sick of the gender wars that it's not even funny. I'm not going to poke at that stick because it's a potential landmine and probably violates forum rules (no discussing politics, religion, sex, etc. except within context of a game) On the other hand, this forum was named and built a...
