Other types of sidekicks:
The specialist: They have a different skillset than the hero: sniper, bomb expert, "acquisitions" (i.e. Thief)
The right hand man: Keeps the bills paid, controls the appointment book
The Rookie: I guess Robin would fall into this category

I am terrible at fighting games. (I am even worst at jumping in platformers.) Skipping fights: I think this is a viable option for those like me that aren't so great a fighting.
