Re: What are the must-play VNs?

It depends on what would you like to read, but if you are generally looking for the most interesting and highly regarded visual novels, I reccomend looking at the VNDB (Visual Novel Data Base), and take good use of the list along with filtering engine - it's easy to use and will surely help you find...

Re: Need help getting the Turtorial game to work

You propably seem to have some Vista compatibility issues. I assume the Ren'Py itself runs properly, right? Does the Ren'Py Demo work for you? Also, have you downloaded the correct Ren'Py ditribution for your system?

Re: A few questions for players

1. When the setting is a high school, do you prefer your protagonist to be a I don't care much about such details. High school, well is a high school - each year has it's own nice and bad sides and there isn't a big difference in them in aspect of character's age. The only notable things that count...

Re: Is it possible to create a VN game with high re-play val

Ok then, let's get straight to the point. You asked, if there is a possibility to create a visual novel with a high replayability value. Yes, there is, but it has nothing to do with the game itself being varied in terms of art departament. Multi-routing is one of the ways to increase the value, but ...

Re: Visual novels in Poland - Survey results!

Good words. As for me, Sound is as important as the rest of elements every visual novel is built of. You can still go without it, or sacrifce the quality, but you'll see you're loosing very much because of it. Music in visual novel helps to convey proper feelings to people who read the text and watc...

Re: Recommended resolution?

Just remember, that such high resolution graphics will need alot more space than smaller ones. PNG is the one most flexible option to chose from (mostly because of many interesting features and transculency), but higher quality PNG assets weight quite a lot and you will propably need a lot of them; ...

Re: Recommended resolution?

And you're right, because with OpenGL resolutions shouldn't be that much of a problem and with a bit of thought you can make games both for standard and wide screen aspect, increasing their portability. The only matter is the "crispiness" of art. Smaller images resized by OpenGL will have ...

Re: Visual novels in Poland - Survey results!

@MightyPeanut - This may be because many people might still not know what exactly visual novels are, most of us propably sees it as some sort of digitalized stories told within computer; the presence of sound may be obvious, but still - many readers will see the writing and graphics as the most infl...

Re: Art Dumpage! Show your art ^^

Honestly, I don't mind - those are only sketches after all and it's the idea and general feel that counts the most, rarely other people are able to copy, so it's not a problem  It's just a cautious habit of mine.

Visual novels in Poland - Survey results!

Some time ago, I decided to take some measures in visual novel propaganda and made a survey to examine the needs and interests of my fellow country gamers. Now, I could finally made a conclusion and I'm happily posting the results of the survey to a wider english audience. I don't know how much of u...

I swear I saw this discussed somewhere before, but I can't seem to locate the thread now. ^_^; You've propably meant this one: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=7989 Lazy, lazy :P About 20 000-35 000 words, depending one your reader's read speed, I would guess. I've played a...

LVUER: Uh, I've never played FFIV but that sounds really frustrating :P I have to admit, I don't remember any great puzzles that would stay in my memory for far longer, nor played any RPG's lately, but one did amuse me - the "Invisible bridge" from the Gauntlet in Dragon Age, where you had...

Re: Expanding the Community (was: Unique Opportunity)

The point is, if you write a 1000 word story, making one illustration for it can be done in a day, but to make a comic out of it you may still need a month. try making a cartoon out of it, or game, graphic grows exponentially. This is why I like visual novels as a medium, they at least have some eq...

Re: Expanding the Community (was: Unique Opportunity)

I've always known a 'good' ending as far as VNs to mean that it's a detailed ending in which you get lots of CGs, as opposed to the ending where your game is cut off prematurely because you messed up in your choices. I've not often seen it as a value judgement on ending content (for example, if X d...
