Re: Advice on Writing Narrative in VNs
But if you show too much and never tell the story will come to a halt because it has to show every damn thing. Very True. -- When I first started writing this was one of my biggest faults; too much detail. My stories were practically travelogues from all the details I stuffed in them. Tolkien was m...

Re: Advice on Writing Narrative in VNs
Hmm, interesting post, though not sure I would take it all as a strict guideline. Then don't. :) How a VN should be written is entirely up to the creator. Consider this advice merely a Tool in the writer's toolbox that you can use or not, as you like. ...Very few readers would know about this rule ...

Re: Advice on Writing Narrative in VNs
Changes in characters/actions do not necessarily require new paragraphs. For example, take the following excerpt from Jandy Nelson's published novel " The Sky Is Everywhere ": I put my book and pen down on the table. Gram leans in close to the plant, whispers to it about the importance of...

Re: Help making Phoenix Wright style UI
Did you remember to list these flags as False right after the 'start' label? label start: $ t_m01 = False $ ex_m01 = False The fastest way to check if the problem is the flags is by removing them from the menu: label Ms_marigold: menu: "Talk.": jump talk_m01 "Examine.": jump exam...

Advice on Writing Narrative in VNs --RePosted by Request from PyTom & Edited for Adult Content-- I twitch as he slowly moves his hand to my shirt and up it. His fingertips tickle a bit, but I resist to laugh. -- From a long adult scene posted by pocoscon . The scene itself was excellent, lots o...

Re: Help making Phoenix Wright style UI
So messed around with it more, thinking it's because those labels weren't what was actually used so tried changing them to what was already in the game but still can't figure out what's wrong with the menuitem right there. Post your code. It'll be easier to see what went wrong. Something to be awar...

Re: How do you plan a VN?
How do I plan out my games? I start by looking through all my Assets , and my asset sources to see what I have vs. what I don't : -- music, images, sound effects. Then I consider my Artistic limitations : -- What I can create vs. what I can't create. Then I consider my Coding limitations : -- What I...

Re: How to Change Sprites Based on Chosen Gender
In my game Trap! I set up gender choice and naming this way: in script.rpy init: $ e = DynamicCharacter("pc_name", color="#ffffcc", outlines = [(1, "#333300", 0, 0)], drop_shadow = (2, 2,), what_prefix="\"", what_suffix="\"", show_two_windo...

Re: Writing in a journal-like style?
Alrighty, thanks for naming it for me! And thank you for the advice! I'm sure it's a lot more interesting when stuff is actually happening while characters are feeling things. I'm glad I could help. Additionally, I've made sure to only have one character's POV the entire time. Excellent! Also...

Re: Help making Phoenix Wright style UI
First, thanks for being willing to help a nooblet out. ^_^ My pleasure. I was once a newbie too. My first time with all this so things are confusing even with the tutorials. Perfectly understandable. So I would need to put both of those in for it to work? Well, you do need to set up a menu of some ...

Re: Writing in a journal-like style?
This is also known as an Interior Monologue. -- It's extremely effective writing when you're going for a story with loads of Feelings and you want to immerse the reader in said feelings. However... Stories aren't just about Feelings and/or Conversations (dialogue), stories are about things that happ...

Re: Help making Phoenix Wright style UI
...For my NV I'm wanting to make it so when you approach a character you have to hit a button for either talk, Examine, back, or tasks before you can converse or whatnot with them. Menu choices and jumping to 'labeled' menus would accomplish this. You can also add flags to keep from repeating conve...

Re: Problems in customizing the Load/Save menu and Yes/No Pr
In the Load/Save Screen You MUST use a font you actually have or it will trip an error. If you are not using a specific font add a # to the front of the line and it will no longer read that line of code. init -2 python: ##The save/load slots. # style.large_button_text.font = "AUBREY1__.TTF"...
