Projects: A thingie without a title. With messy code.

I'm sure it would be great! Just think of all the backgrounds you wouldn't have to draw. Just set up a Photoshop action to run through all the necessary filters and three seconds later, one finished background suitable for hand-drawn characters.

Rather than would be, it is great, actually. I already do all of that, both with Photoshop filters and with other programs I've also purchased for that sake.
I was asking just because I found the particular way you do it interesting too, since it's a little bit different from mine. I was just interested in learning a different way of doing it, although I am fully satisfied with mine. ^^

I like that in yours there's a bit of a "is it a photo? Or is it not a photo? Uhm..." vibe to it that keeps people wondering how much might be photo and how much might be drawn. While my methods make the edited photos look like hand-drawn anime/OVA backgrounds, so it's really hard to tell they weren't, well, hand-drawn. (I do enhance part of it by hand when I feel the need for it, and I can draw by hand at that same level of detail as well though, so I use the filters etc. merely to gain time.)
I'm always interested in techniques that are a bit different from the ones I already use, since that means learning new things. :) That's why I asked.

OokamiKasumi wrote:
However, I must politely decline. It took me far too long to figure out exactly what combination of filters (most of them Not included with Photoshop and rather expensive) it takes to make photos look like that. I'm not about to just give away nearly a year's worth of experimentation and my only advantage in game making; halfway decent art.

Don't worry, I understand. ;) With this kind of thing I guess each person has their way of viewing it, especially when it comes to purchased things. I'm a tutorial kind of person sometimes because I believe it makes a community more fun to have everybody always learning new things. But I can understand why you would prefer to keep it a secret, especially if you're using it for work. After all, despite all my tutorial love even I haven't always made tutorials about some of the techniques I use for the art I do for work.

Oh, now you're rubbing salt in my wounds. lol!
-- I can't draw with anywhere near your level of skill. (So jealous!) The only thing I know is how to doctor photos, and even that's not really all that impressive, so please forgive me if I hold my techniques a bit close to my chest.

Believe it or not, I am very big on sharing tutorials, just not for art. I'm an author by trade with 40 some-odd tutorials out on writing. Seriously --> http://ookamikasumi.deviantart.com/gallery/24356519. That I have no problems sharing. :)

The story wasn't very interesting, but the game play was great.
And, it's Farewell,not Fairwell.

Well, at least the game itself wasn't boring. LOL! Thank you.

Code is done. I'll post it tonight with explanations!

Yes!
-- Code has been added. I haven't updated yet though because I want to add a few more rooms first and adjust the story. Or rather, adjust it to have something of a story.

This is sooo cool!!!

Would you mind telling me how you did that? Make the hidden items change?

The original coding was done by SusantheCat. I got it here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11246 Read the WHOLE post, top to bottom. Seriously.

I have no clue how it works, only that it does. Keep in mind, I made some MAJOR adjustments.

It has an array that holds all the objects and where the object is located:
Code:
    bedroom_items = []
    bedroom_items.append(Item("hippo", 507,415,117,88))
    bedroom_items.append(Item("weights", 247,66,109,42))
    bedroom_items.append(Item("blue kitties", 196,343,103,62))
    bedroom_items.append(Item("comb", 467,520,93,26))
    bedroom_items.append(Item("duck", 150,136,67,44))
...etc...

Then I tell the script to pick 3:
Code:
    $ hidden_items = renpy.random.sample(bedroom_items,3)

The main screen is just a spiffy imagemap that uses the locations of the objects as the hot spots.

Susan

Great game. If it was a little longer, you could easily fooled me, if you told me it's commercial...

It would be nice to have the hints explained or even show remaining hints. I was a bit afraid to use them the first time around, because I didn't knew how many I have and if they get transferred from room to room or not.

I hope you will go easy on the miss-click penalty (or maybe implement a couple of difficulty levels) or people might start hating butterflies. ;)

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.

I thought I explained at the beginning of this post? 3 hints per room.

leon wrote:

Unfortunately, I'm not quite that good at coding just yet.

leon wrote:

Nope, they don't transfer. 3 hints per room, period.

LOL!
-- Unfortunately, I have to get the click-penalty code to work before I can add it to the game. At the moment, I can only get the click-penalty OR the hint button to work, not both at the same time.

You did... I just meant to have this mentioned in the game.

Wait... 5 hints? I thought it was 3... :)

Just curious... Why is this rated PG13? Did I miss something?

About the false positive virus issue... In which file is the virus supposed to be? I did an online scan for MadalinesMiscellany.exe with 20 antivirus programs, including AVG and it all came clean. http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanresul ... 1e54d506a8

In the game itself? Oh, I did that...in the upgrade -- which I haven't posted to Mediafire yet. <face-palm>

AH! It is three! Okay, no more replies to the forum when short of sleep.

leon wrote:

I didn't want it labelled as a Kiddie Game. No matter how child safe this one game is, everything else I do is ADULT, as in seriously R-18. I didn't want to chance a parent going bananas because the Rest of my work is Adult.

According to the people who have contacted me, (and my own AVG,) the Virus warnings seem to be going off because of the .exe:
When you try to download the .exe loader.
When you try to open the game's folder.
When you try to open the game.
