Just finished this as well, so some late thoughts:

Most everything that the others said goes for me as well - it was a really enjoyable game which had two main high points for me: realistic dialogue and a good dose of humor. The two scenes I liked best were the bathroom scene and Ending 3, right after the climax. The "Too bad... you could use it to..." line by the hero. Also as mentioned, everything was very polished and professional - since I started on my own game, I can appreciate how much time those little 'tweaks' take, so kudos for that!

First ending I got was Ending 1 - since I was aiming for you know who.
Too bad - would have been cool to see prim and icy Iyona taking on the role of 'magical girl'. Issues with matt would be a bonus.

Speaking of endings, I thought for a moment there would be one with Dan :P
Ending-wise, there is one thing I would have liekd to see:
Something involving the race of people who fight the Shadows - or even the spirit of the woman herself, form the beginning - to tell the player in effect that they had done well in selecting him.
Character-wise, I loved all the characters - they were very distinct, but all very likeable. ^_^

Looking forward to your next work!

Thanks for the praise, I'm happy to hear the humour found its way to the audience. You see, after writing/reading/rewriting/testing for a hundred times it wasn't half as funny for me anymore. I just hoped it still would be for first-time readers.

Agreed, more elements could have been added to the the story. Like you said,
the woman (or her colleagues) could have been brought in to explain more of the background and/or to give some feedback. Since I had to draw the line somewhere to avoid that the story scope gets out of hand, I decided to end the story right there. Plus the fact that I was afraid of slipping into a boring epilogue that would be too long compared to the rest of the story. :)

Aina fanart

#34 Post by Nafai »

Didn't really know where best to put this but... Anyway, just to show my appreciation for the hard work on the game, I did some Aina fanart. Its not much, but, its the thought that counts right? ^_^

Wow, that's a really nice one! Thanks! Hmmm... it kind of makes you think when the fanart is better than the original! ^_^;;;

*laughs* Thanks for the compliment, but its really just different art styles. Besides, the original is the inspiration, and that's something a secondary work can't give. ;)

G!MB review

#38 Post by Alessio »

Yesterday I discovered that G!MB, albeit with a punctuation that slightly differs from the original (ehem!), got a short but positive review in the "Free games" section of the Finnish computer magazine "MikroBitti" (8/2006). The reviewer concluded that the VN, "in its spirit of anime, is nice to play."

Nice one Alessio :D. Since they give a zip name, I suppose it's distributed on some cd/dvd with the mag ?

Actually no, that's the bummer - they only distribute it via the web with access limited to the subscribers of the magazine. But I guess that can be solved with a bit of Googling. :)

Congratulations, mentioning a game in a paper is champagne-worthy! (Oh wait, I forgot... I don't drink... EVER. MacGyver had a big impact on me when I was a boy ^_^)

Pity, I seem to remember the beer down there is pretty good. But respect for that decision (although I hope it's not only due to MacGyver). And anyway there's still cars, which are better enjoyed without alcohol! :) (Today the newspaper reported that Finnish police caught a driver with 6.84 per mille of alcohol in his blood... heavens...)

Ooops. Welcome to the Lemma Soft forums, the world of off-topic! :))))

The champagne I'll save for when Ren'Py makes front page news. ;)

Minor update: Release 005 corrects spelling mistakes, cleans up some code, displays the player name, and shows dialogue with quotation marks (thanks to Wolfrider and PyTom for explaining the point in their posts above). Also, a new nice Ren'Py splashscreen was added.

The reason for the rehaul was to make a good basis for a Czech version, and the fact that G!MB will be included on a magazine CD of the Mikrobitti magazine (some 100,000 copies according to the editor). More publicity for Ren'Py!
