It happens the same to me  ! LWR's avatar led a fixed impression on me, and I can't just picture a guy behind the computer, less
imagining the situation he just told.

@Auro-Cyanide:
I just broke in laugh with that sketch XD

The only good thing is that before this all happened, I had the bright idea of moving my VN stuff to my external drives, so at least I still have those and some of their GIMP files.

Still, glad to know your VN data is safe and sound :)

Sadly, my commision work and other stuff I was doing for people is gone as well. I hate dissapointing people ;_;

Jeez, why?!
But seriously, look into a data recovery program. My hard drive was given to me by a friend, who in turn had received it as a gift by another family member a while back. When I used a trial of a data recovery program, it found data that definitely did not belong to my friend - meaning I'm pretty sure that data survived multiple reformattings. Here, it says "Note that reformatting a disk does not erase the data on the disk, only the data on the address tables. Do not be panic, however, if you accidentally reformat a disk that has useful data. A computer specialist should be able to recover most, if not all of the information on the disk. You can also buy programs that enable you to recover a disk yourself."

I never thought of him as a little girl because IIRC he mentioned he had glasses. So I always think of a guy with Scary Shiny Glasses.

She did the switch from angry and harumphing hands on the hips pose, to leaning down on the counter, cleavage aimed at me, using her arms to smush her breasts together. All of which I might have attributed to just a mistake, if she hadn't simultaneously switched to a soft cooing voice and making a pout with her lips.

That picture is surprisingly close to what I actually look like! Except, you know, less angry. Right glasses shape, right frames, right hair color! My hair is styled a little differently, but not much! I'd like to think my glasses did that "Scary Shiny" thing when I said "walk away", but probably not.

I might have a bit of a preoccupation with Alice, as my final project in color pencils was an Alice illustration, my final oil painting project was a version of Alice, and my first statue I made was of TWO Alices together. I also collect multiple copies of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. I like unique binding jobs, or unique sets of illustrations. I have a book case of nothing but copies of the two books! So it isn't a big surprise she's used as my avatar.

OMG... guys... LWR confirmed for Gendo Ikari.
Your posts just got 10x more scary to read.

You wanna know something funny? Sometimes I imagine you with bunny ears.
And I swear I once saw a picture of Gendo with bunny ears.

Haha. I didn't know who that was until I looked it up. I've never seen Evangelion. (Yes, yes, I'm a bad person.) My hair really is almost the exact shade of gray of his in the TV Tropes picture. I lack the beard, though I often have a day's worth of stubble going on.

Now that kinda makes me wonder how Gendo would look like with his signature pose, shiny glasses and bunny ears as he says “Irrelevant, walk away.” xD

If you ever have a chance to get a hold of the manga or the anime, it's worth checking out ^^

Offhand, do you have Gardner's The Annotated Alice? And if so, what did you think of it?

I'm surprised, since you like the Alice stories so much. Evangelion got wonderfully trippy towards the end.

Oh yeah, and harking back to the general topic of looking younger than actual age...
Today, I was walking down the sidewalk and a little girl, older than 5 but younger than ten, coincidentally ran into the front yard of her house. She looked at me strangely. I kept walking, because children scare me a little.

Her: Hi. What's your name?
Me: [redacted]. What's yours?
Her: Gabby.
Me: (smiles nervously and keeps walking)
Her: (confused) ...Are you a kid?
Me: No...

;w; Do not know if happy... or embarrassed...

All this talk of graphic design reminds me of a potential client I had a couple of years back. He asked for a website based on a Powerpoint slide which he had exported as HTML. It had some generic images, but I was assured that they owned them in spite of how familiar they looked. In the end, I just assumed that they came from a graphics pack they had bought.

I took a look at what they wanted and gave a quote. I got the typical 'but that page I sent you only took five minutes in Powerpoint' which I thought I had escaped after going freelance, but no... Then I got an email telling me where to get lots of free images, asking if I could do their corporate site for under £50 (about $75 US) by using those.

That was when it all started to fall apart. All the images on their sample corporate website were from that site. Lots of strict rules about being non-commercial (well, we're not a shop, so that doesn't count) and requiring attribution. I even found their 'corporate logo' on the site.

Head met desk.

"Can you make us a new corporate logo? We can add another £50 to the budget..."

And then, they outdid themselves. Looking to set up their Twitter account, I found that their company name (which they had registered with Companies House, so were kind of stuck with) was already taken. Taken by another company in the same city. I googled it and found out that the other company was quite famous for taking people's money and running, right up until they got caught.

"Oh, I wondered why people kept asking if we were really XXXX when we called them."

At this point, I realised I couldn't help them and gave up.

I have finally obtained a nice, modern computer capable of playing games. I had been avoiding doing that for years now, but since my new job is going to require some moderate work from home as well, I figured I had to do it. Now, that sounds great and all, but it doesn't describe the overwhelming despair I felt. See, I've had the same computer for around seven years now. It wasn't just old, it was also a pre-built computer. The kind that costs around $300.

So when I finally began to use this nice, modern computer I went "...This is what normal people have been using for years now? I...I could have had this all along? ARE YOU SERIOUS BRO?" It was terrifying. But on the bright side, I can now use a computer that doesn't glitch when trying to use open office.

Feel free to ignore this, just a mini rant I need to get out of my system.

Been super busy this week...started off with being abruptly woken up Sunday and told to get dressed in jeans and "a nice shirt" for my job interview. What happens? Instead of being interviewed, I'm put straight to work without any warning. (And had to change into another shirt which was thankfully provided by my brother who works there, knowing where they kept all the uniforms) I watch, learn, and try to remember everything he shows me. Yet I still end up bugging him. A lot. Especially asking him how many times I was supposed to cut cheese/meat. (Note: Job is at deli/bakery) So this week has been working, working, and working. With me working 6am to 1 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. With me feeling slow, annoying, and inadequate. (Especially since I couldn't fall asleep for Wednesday or Friday) Plus I now need glasses...I would always have to squint my eyes while staring up at their menu (both normal and specials of the day). Note to self...buy new shoes so feet won't be in awful pain.

I had my eye exam Thursday...and I end up with a perverted man (according to my step dad, who saw him trying to look down my shirt). Glasses time, we find out that we would have to pay over $300 for a single pair of glasses with transition lens. ($59 for the exam) Obviously step dad gets angry because he paid much less for my younger siblings. So back home we drive...for an hour....on a motorcycle....wind and hair whipping my face...and my butt going very, very numb. Shortly after we go to the "magical world" of Walmart, where we pay for my glasses for $242, with transition AND no glare coat included. (While the earlier ones were only putting transition)

Now to wait a week or two for them to arrive....*tears*

Pushing all that away, my little sister has officially moved out today into her college dorms. Feeling happy that I have my own room again and that the radio will no longer be left on all night. Yet also feeling a bit melancholy, going to feel very strange having her gone. Oh well she's only an hour away, we could always drive over to bug her.

That is the end of my mini rant.

Hmm.. someone needs a hug it seems ^^'
And here I complain about my heat problem... No, not that kind of heat, I'm not a girl.

I should be sleeping right now but it's so hot that I can't and apparently it's not going to get much better until Wednesday.

Offhand, do you have Gardner's The Annotated Alice? And if so, what did you think of it?

Yes, I do. The Definitive Edition from 1999. It is VERY nice. And it is really helpful for understanding a lot of the subtle puns or mockeries that would have been apparent to a contemporary reader of Carroll's, but are lost to modern audiences. Even though I love Victorian era things and have studied the period extensively in language and customs, I discovered several word plays that I had missed for years before Gardner explained them to me.

And of course, it is of IMMENSE help with all the mathematical in-jokes and satire. (Dodgson hated imaginary numbers.)

The biographical information about Carroll and Alice Liddell is great too, like what the weather was actually like on their famous boat ride down the Thames, etc. It drives home how innovative Carroll was as an author and photographer, and also shines a light on some of his quirks and short-comings. It really is the definitive edition to own if you're only going to own one copy of the books.

Someday, I'll plan an Ocean's 11 style heist to grab Carroll's original handwritten version of Alice's Adventures Underground with his own hand-drawn illustrations, signed and presented to the real Alice, from Oxford's vaults. Then my collection shall be complete, mwahahaha!
