Hmmm, I'm thinking of buying a tablet and thought it would be really nice to be able to play VNs on it in the dead time I have commuting to work. I'm thinking of the Samsung Galaxy one ($500-$600) because, while I like the iPads, they don't really play VNs and they are fairly similar to the Galaxy range (according to one site I was looking at). Is there a downside to the Galaxy series that I should know about? *totally not tech savvy. I just want a tablet ;_;*

1. It's too expensive for such specs. Other brand offer cheaper price with same specs.
2. The data port is lacking. You need special cable (only from Samsung proprietary) to do data exchange with PC. And even in some Tab series (the older one) you need to use special software (again, Samsung proprietary).

You know I used to be the guy who had the $500 cellphone and the $1000 camera, until I was pickpocketed and years later my house flooded. Nowadays I just buy the cheapest no-name Chinese brands that meet the specs.

The problem with name brands is you are sort of tied. Like with a Sony camera, you had to use the proprietary Memorystick (not standard SDcard), and you had to convert from .m2ts (or whatever) it was called. My China camera now? MP4 in HD from the get-go right on the SDcard. How convenient is that?! I'm pretty sure that you can do a lot of things without having to root your device.

The only thing wrong with my tablet now is the borked transitions, but I'm pretty sure the same brand of China tablet with higher resolution and with dual processors or at least a GPU will be more than adequate for your needs.

I'm personally using a rooted Kindle Fire. Nice, large 7" tablet and the closest thing there is to a Android "console". The $199 price tage wasn't too bad either. Anyone else thinking of releasing a game on the Amazon market?

Edit: It also runs Midnight Walks perfectly but I have yet been able to push my own games to it as I haven't tried using the RAPT tool yet.

Yes, the Kindle fire seems very promising. Amazon market +Kindle fire seems like the perfect environment for visual novels because of the already stationed reader audience. Im currently developing a few test apps for it, but Im using Adobe Air instead since there's enough flexibility to port over to iOS.

I'm thinking of getting a tablet too, in order to play and test VNs. My question is...can you actually develop the game on a tablet?

Because it would be super nice to just carry the tablet around and code.

I felt the need to update this old thread. If you follow me on twitter you already know that last week my pricey Asus transformer 101 died. Smelt burned plastic, went upstairs (it was recharging) and noticed the usb cable seems "fused" on the side where you plug it on the tablet. The tablet seemed to work but the battery was very low and so couldn't really understand if had some "interior" damage (sadly not good enough with my English to describe it).
Obviously, it cannot be recharged anymore using the cable (if I plug in, it just resets the tablet).
Bad luck happens even if speaking with other people nobody had a tablet burned after only 3 months they bought it, and is not like I was using it 8h a day ! more likely 1h day max.
Now phoning to Asus to get it replaced, they started to say that might have been my fault!!!! That was really a poor thing to say, I don't think that "recharging the tablet" was a uncommon usage
I'll keep updated on how this ends, just in case you were thinking to buy one. It might be just an accident and everything could solve well, but... you never know
