"Why?" It's mostly something we can't control. We're either interested in pursuing boys or girls. Sometimes that means you were born the opposite gender, sometimes not.
Thread seems a little pointless. Sorry. =\

I was wondering if it depends on the gender because some people play both types of games, while some people play only one type.

Then it probably has nothing to do with a game being GxB/BxG, and more about the story or something else ...
Or else some stigma or preconception of what the GxB/BxG element means.

Or both, or neither, or in-between! :) When it comes down to what people are actually interested in (which isn't necessarily the same as what they play) there are a lot of possibilities... and anime adds futa to the real-world options as well. And then there's people who are into pairings that by necessity can't include them (female yaoi fans, male yuri fans)...

A more interesting discussion might be if you can find people here who play a pairing that doesn't match their personal inclinations and talk about what elements of a game/story draw them to play it anyway, perhaps?

I don't really play VNs for the romance, most of the time. When it does come to it, though, as long as it's well done, I can enjoy any sort of gender pairing. Hell, a game could be lamp x TV, and I could still enjoy it as long as it's well written enough. I guess it's because I'm more attracted to the emotional aspect of fictional romance. The love is what matters, not the genders or sexuality of the people involved. In fact, I find it rather interesting to see the whole thing from a different perspective than what my own would be.

Actually I play both. But I am more into GxB. Well, why? Because I'm a girl, and I like to squeal at boys, not girls. xD

I don't play to chase 2D characters. I play VN to see story. If it's a good story, I don't mind any pairings.

I'll play both, they just have to have a good story.

Neither, because I like to think that my gaming experiences are less shallow than who is trying to bang who.

I prefer a female protagonist in general, because I'm female and I find them more easy to relate with, but have played both. I've loved my fair share of both types of games, too. Some of my favorites had a male lead, like Ever 17. One of the best games I've ever played.

I loved Persona 3 both before and after it got ported to the PSP. I guess it boils down to:

Dynamic Plot. Strong Characterization. Well executed Art. Music that supports the atmosphere well.

The rest is just bonus.

Yes, plot is extremely important. I only play GxB games though.

I want to make a game about the romance of a Lamp and a TV now.
