Game development websites...

#1 Post by Snowflower »

I've seen many of the game makers here having blogs, websites, forums, etc... I would like to make one, without spending any money of course since blogs and some forums don't require any payments.

What kind of method would be the best for such desire?

I think it depends on the sort of updates you want to have. A blog is handy for high volumes of information, but some groups like Zeiva and Nekomura prefer to use tumblr to post quick updates like sketches, screencaps, or snippets of information.

Well, I actually want to have like a place where I can upload pictures, information, forum talk stuff etc... Much like what azurextwilight or Aleema (Godlike web) are doing for their games.

I generally find Facebook pages (or Groups) quite useful in that aspect. It is free. Pictures, information (via notes) and videos can easily be uploaded in a centralized area. You can also discuss things with people who choose to 'like' you or join your group directly.

I've been using Posterous recently and is quite good, you can have a blog that autopost on many other places (FB,youtube, etc) and a sort of web-mailing list with it (but I didn't use it).

I have my website because I have my own domain/hosting, which costs money. I would have to say, to get all the features you want, you'd have to piece together free stuff, like a blog that links to a forum. In all honesty, a forum is probably all you need, since you can post updates in a thread, which is like a blog.

I'll second wordpress and tumblr if you want a place to post pics and updates, but if you want an actual forum, just go with that.

If you just want a webpage/site for your game that has some screen caps and character profiles, then that's a different story.
