Undead Lily and The Elemental Avengers

#1 Post by jack_norton »

The game is still very far from being finished but I want some feedback on the battle system I'm thinking to use for this game.

Get this:
http://www.winterwolves.net/temp/ULTest.zip
it's a zip with PC/Mac/Linux combined archive of a small techdemo of my upcoming semi-real time battle system.

I'm particularly interested to know if runs badly (too slow) since I'm pushing Ren'Py again to the limits, the game has animated backgrounds and lots of big transparent sprites so uses quite a lot of VRAM.

You can only move left/right using the arrows right now :D

Note that in the game, you won't be able to move quickly left or right, so don't consider the "skipping" you see if you quickly press the keys since that will never happen in the game.

Thanks :)

Gave it a spin. Very cool. It's a nice, smooth, effect. I'm on Windows Vista from some years back, and it looks great on this end. It's amazing how much cool stuff you can do with Ren'py!

Cool thanks for testing. And yes as I posted several times (also on developer forums) after the ATL and Screen language, you can do basically any kind of 2d game with Ren'Py. And if I managed to do it, must be very easy indeed :D

At least for me, the framerate seems to be fine. (The only time it's under 100fps is immediately after a click.) Clicking Attack zooms me in, but then nothing happens.

on turn 130 or somewhere ´bout that aquarina disappeared when I attacked. ._.
And.. the background seems to go the wrong direction? :P When Lily is going "LEFT", the background should go to the right and not the left, right?

Everything else: Well, got a good PC, win7, everything working fine. Oh wonder. :D

What's the minimum requirement for a PC/notebook to be able to run this game "smoothly" (minimum framerate above 50 fps) ?
- OS (is Win XP SP2 good enough?)
- RAM (most notebook only has 1 GB RAM...)
- VGA (how about PC/notebook with onboard VGA? which onboard chipsets are "good enough" to play this game smoothly?)
Meowwngg...??

That's why I posted the demo, to get people's feedback since is impossible for me to say what with accuracy what is the minimum requirement: on my desktop PC running XP64 with 4Gb RAM and Radeon 4670 runs at 60FPS (60 because is limited by monitor refresh rate, otherwise could reach 100 I think). On my Asus netbook with W7 and 1Gb of RAM and integrated video card, it "works", not really smoothly but you can play it (and is a miracle since I cannot play most commercial games).
