Hey everyone!! I'm new to the forums here (well, I signed up not too long ago but never really did much activity), and I started a small project (a really, really small project) about a girl called Alice chasing after two boys. There's not much of a plot because the idea is simple as it can get.

Sorry about this everyone for not developing something interesting for a first post, which is why I thought it was suitable to post a new topic in the 'Ideas' section, as the game is really a "Hey everyone, here's a small gift for everyone!" or just leaving a good impression of what I can do and get done. So don't get excited or pumped up. Summer Lovin' is more of a test project so if you do download it, the gameplay will be probably no longer than 15-20mins

And finally, onto the main thing...

Image

A short otome story about a girl finding herself a man that will look after her and love her...

Here is the main character:

Image
Her name is Alice. She is 15 years old with a kind heart and a caring nature. Alice moves to a beach house for the summer with her parents, hoping to find herself a boyfriend before school opens.

This is Brandon:

Image
The strong and silent type. Most of the time he keeps to himself, but that's only because of what happened last month. However, Brandon can be a reliable friend when need to be.

And finally:

Image
His name is Chris. Fun and outgoing, he normally walks with a bright, cheerful smile on his face. Chris too is looking for a girlfriend and hopes to get one before Summer ends.

That's all folks for the characters. They don't have any other expressions other than the one they've got. I did not draw them myself so if you're looking for some sprites, then feel free to use them in your game. Just save the image or go to this website (which has an excellent tutorial on how to make a simple otome game, which I am currently using to make this visual novel!): http://www.otome-games.com/index.php/make-your-own-otome-games/13-how-to-make-a-simple-otome-game

If you have any comments then feel free to post. Just please remember that this game is more of a test project before I start getting serious. My main goal in making this is to show merdeamour what I'm capable off.

Sorry, the project has been put on hiatus for the moment due to school work and other projects. I have no idea when I will resume the project (probably during the summer holidays), so I apologise for not being too specific.

Hey, ayo! :D I'm excited to see what you come up with with these. I remember going through that tutorial before, too. Are you writing the whole summary for the whole thing, too?

-And did you make that logo yourself? Looks great! O:

Nah, there won't be a summary, like I said the game won't last long so there's no point. But maybe I might add a little more content if I feel like I can, so we'll just have to wait and see.

To answer your question, yeah I did. I'm quite proud of it even though anyone could design a logo like that. I've also designed the main menu and am still working on the GUI for the story. :D

Question.

These characters have English names and this all takes place where English is commonly spoken, right?
Why does the title have Japanese letters at the bottom? :?

Haha, I did that tutorial as well! ^^ That's also where I first learned about Ren'Py flags and stuff. :)
I only got to around Day 5 and 1k words though before I ended the mini-game. So... I'm looking forward to this. :)

Also, I agree with ShippoK. :) Why is there kana at the bottom of the logo? It looks very pretty though. I can't make logos for the life of me. Hahaha.

Looks like I'm not part of 'anyone' T_T I can't design logos even if I tried (and I have, believe me...).

You're designing the GUI, too? I'll be keeping an eye on this... looks like you added pictures of the main menu since I last saw this!

I decided to use japanese characters at the bottom of the title because I've thought it looked nice and cheerful (I guess O.o) I got the inspiration after looking at some japanese light novels illustrations and like their typography and style so I thought I could implement that in my design. Also, the names are in english because when I saved the images from the 'otome game' website, the name was already there for them so I thought I just used them for now as placeholders.

I'm still currently working on the GUI (coming up with a new design) and still learning how to code a working imagemap for the preferences and save/load screens. It's too troublesome T.T - it's driving me insane!! :O

And thanks for the comments. I know the game won't have a set storyline because it's only a girl chase boy game, but I'm glad that some of you are looking forward to it at least :D

The main screen looks very cheerful, from the information posted it looks like it will fit well with the tone of the game. Nice job.

Thanks for the nice comment Kiki. For some odd reason I thought it looked 'too' much, but I'm glad that you liked it :D

The design is really cute! I might darken the orange outlines if i were you though because right now it's a little too close to the yellow and makes it harder to read. :)
