There's an urban legend going around: if you can see a second clock on your pocket watch, you're going to die as soon as it strikes '12:00'. In a tired, old world, on the musty streets of a certain town, there was a perfectly ordinary teenage girl. She went to school, she had subjects she liked, subjects she disliked, and liked to extort money for her own personal gain – uh. The last part wasn't in her 'normal' front. This girl, named Jane, just coincidentally, by chance, happened to be 'Ruth', the leader of the town gang, the Red Ties. (She thought 'Ruth' meant ruthless when she was nicknamed. She's not the brightest kid.) And, of course, one day, she sees a black smear on the pristine cream surface of her pocket watch, a second clock.
See, she had resolutions. She was going to get her gang to be big; it was going to be awesome; she was going to conquer at least the district, hopefully the state. What's better than an army of minions, right? But there's also that sketchy offer that might offer her an out on this guaranteed death thing...
...but she now only had one week left. 168 hours. She could gamble for more time, or make use of what she has left.
And so, she has to make a choice.

Jane Petunia Gourden, aged 16, the protagonist of the game. Goes by 'Ruth' when she's acting gangster. She's a scary misfit in school that no one approaches. While she loves her little brother and friends, and would do anything for them, she doesn’t particularly like the rest of her family, or, well, humanity. She doesn't like to be reminded too much of her convoluted family history, which is why she joined a gang to be independent in her own way. Ringleader of "the Red Ties" gang, which is a subdivision of the largest gang in the country, "the Ties".

Casey Bradley Doe, aged 16, who goes by Cas, is the nerdy popular kid in school - on the student council, student representative of her class, etc. Her only best friend is Jane; whenever she’s with Jane everyone avoids her. She doesn’t know about Jane’s gangster adventures during and out of school. She strongly opposes stereotypes and judging a book by it’s cover.

Nathan Gourden, aged 9. Most people call him Nate. He's the youngest in the family, and the much loved brother of Jane. He's mostly taken care of by Jane due to his father being too busy. He's quiet but cheeky to Jane. While he has lots of friends at school, he doesn't like being popular. Has no recollection of his mother, and honestly, he's quite fine with that.

Noel Gregory, aged 18. Jane’s best friend within the gang. He's one of most the trusted gang members that help guard the Boss, and one of the best combat specialists in the gang; he taught Jane everything she knows about street brawling. Strangely, he can’t stand insects and walruses. His family - all gang members - died tragically in a bus accident.

Michael Finchley, but everyone just calls him Mal or Boss. He's 25, and he's the infamous boss of "the Ties". Not much is known about his private life or anything else.

Killian Bessey, aged 17. The runt of the gang that everyone picks on because he’s a wannabe poser, but Jane pities him so she only slaps him around lightly. Little does the entire gang know that he is the son of the internationally famous brand Starkfield industries, he is surprisingly extremely wealthy and powerful outside of the gang. But he's too much of a wannabe for anyone to actually see that.

Other character information coming after the prologue is released!

This game will be a visual novel in a vague sense of the word; something more like an RPG/VN hybrid, probably. We aim to have a quest system, a side quest system, and a tactical-turn based combat system.

Hello! I'm Laniessa. I tend to lurk around the art forums here, so you may have seen me before. So, I finally have a project! 3 friends and I decided to team up for the goodness of gaming society (no), things happened, and now the original writer, a coder - ScottySeng - and I will be making this.

This story in question will have two paths – so there's pretty much only one main choice in the game, though that one choice is pretty important. It's basically deciding how the main character will spend her last seven days alive, as you've read in the synopsis. There will hopefully be side-quests and small choices though! Just don't expect branches within the branches.

I'm in charge of art assets such as character design, concept art, side sprites, website/ui design, promo art, the works. Other than that, we have a writer and a programmer. We hope to release them in installments, starting from the prologue, to chapter 1, to chapter 2, and so on. We've done a fair bit at this stage. Of course, we want to release this for free!

Now that that's out of the way, from what you'll see in the post below and what you've seen so far, could you do a bit of Q&A? If you're too busy to do all of questions, that's fine! Only answer the ones that you feel would help guide us and put us on the right track.

Cool looking game. The art is really nice and I'm highly interested. Please update when you can and I hope this will be in the works in progress thread :)

Right. I should answer your questions

1. I expect it to be a bit dramatic because she's going to die in a week. That's really sad though. I hope the player can change that :)

2. Well, there's isn't much art on this page but from the looks of it, it could be commercial. It' does look professional to me though. I like how you did Ruth :)

3.Yes. I'd play it. For the story, art, and basically everything. It's really interesting

4-Can't answer this really but I love Ruth's art. She's cool and spunky

5-No really. As long as the story and characters are good, I'm happy

6.I'd have to say yes, but with my small funds I couldn't give you the price. Maybe 5-10 bucks

Thank you so much! For both the support and the filling-out-the-questionnaire thing. (I hope I can get this moved to WIP too! I'm waiting until we get at least rudimentary game system up and going before I move it over, though.)

This seems like a really cool game. I can't wait until it's released. I answered the questionnaire below with exception of the last question since I didn't have anything to say.

What do you expect from this game?

Something ridiculously awesome, especially because it's an RPG with incredible art.

Does it look professional? Could it be commercial?

Definitely looks commercial quality. In fact, the art kind of reminds me of 'The World Ends With You' in the sense that it looks kind of edgy. I wouldn't question a game like this sold commercially.

Would you play it when it gets released? What part makes you want to play it the most? (Art, story, gameplay, other?)

I would definitely play it when it gets released (depending on if I have the money to afford it, of course). I'm mainly interested in the art. However, I can see that the writing is pretty good and that the characters seem really interesting. Instead of just an amusing RPG, I think that this game might give me something to think about character wise. They seem like real people and the concept is interesting.

Which character design is your favourite?

Jane's character design, no doubt about it. Also with the full body shot just added. I really like her hairstyle, colour and just everything else. But both designs for the characters were done exceptionally.

Are there any features in particular that you want / are looking forward to?

I don't really know what to expect gameplay wise but it's cool that it will having fighting in it with RPG elements.

Probably not. But that's because I never really buy fanbooks.

Ooh, thank you very much! I'll clarify on one point:

The game will be very much free!

It's just the extra stuff that we hope to make a profit from.

TWEWY was a huge influence on the art style I chose for this game, actually. I adore the art for that game, and it's perfect for a bit of a dark urban/street setting, which is what I visualize when I think of this game. Ghost Trick is another bit of an influence; mainly the bright colours and the stand-out art style. I tried to make it stand out more than generic anime.

Our team had a meeting today and I got to see the basics of the game engine! It's looking pretty cool, I must say.

I also noticed I haven't put up the full-body for uniform Jane yet! So, well. Here it is.

I can't believe I actually guessed right for the art style. I thought I was just imagining things when it looked like TWEWY. I love that game too. The art style really does suit the concept of your game and is very atypical (in a good way, of course). I can't wait to see how it all comes together.

The body shot looks great! I don't know what it is about Jane's design. It might be the choppy haircut and very bright colour, but I love it. Hers is definitely my favourite.

Noel! Killian's art is underway. I'm not exactly done with it yet.

So Noel was meant to be the sort-of respectable male character that all shows and games seem to have, haha. No one can take Killian seriously. He's a chill, laid back guy, and unfortunately, doesn't get many lines in the prologue. But he'll pop up quite often. I added his info to the main post, and I reformatted the post again to hopefully be more user-friendly!

EDIT: Killian is done! Added Nathan's info to the list.

As the website designer, I hope this project goes well. I'm looking forward to seeing it done. The illustrations you do are amazing, I hope the 3D art lives up to that.

Gosh, thanks! (I really hope we can release the site soon.)

3D art is coming along nicely! We're going to make a mock-up of the ingame visuals soon, so I hope to show that next time.

Nathan, Jane's little brother, and Mal, the gang boss, has been added to the main post! I'm going to start working on the ingame art now, since that's all the character-concept art needed for the prologue.

Heya everyone! Sorry for going somewhat awol there, I assure you that it was simply because I wasn't sure what to post, rather than having done nothing.

A couple of announcements: the site is pretty much done! I mean, not entirely, since it won't work properly on some mobile resolutions, and there are a few places that need to be touched up, but essentially, it's all good. So, it'd be nice if you took a look! It's over here!

Secondly, our programmer broke his wrist. Which... isn't too good, but I've taken it upon myself to make a mock-up using ren'py and what assets we have; without BGs, it should be done quite soon! Here's a screenshot:

I don't want that to be the actual screen-res, but I'm hopeless at ren'py and I don't know how to change it.

Thirdly, all the sprites for the prologue are done! The prose for the prologue is too, and all we need to do is convert that to a script. I'm not sure what to do with the entire background problem for the mock-up, but I think I'll just put in sketches meanwhile.

Feedback is welcome, and I apologize for the double post! We'll release this game, even if we have to change it from an rpg to a VN, haha.

This looks good! The premise sounds interesting and the art is nice! Somehow reminds me of The World Ends With You ;D You play that?
I can't help but wondering how the story will go when she chooses her gang or her family. I'm also curious how it'll be when it's RPG. Somehow I imagine you'll, like, wander around, talking to people and find clues? I'm fine if it's a VN though. Good luck with your project!

Thanks! Yeah, TWEWY is one of my classic-go-to games, and the art style is a-mazing. When I thought 'urban setting' for this, the first thing I thought of was that game.

(I'm not entirely sure how accurate that synopsis is anymore - our writers are great writers, but they love adding new elements to the story. But yeah, it should branch into two completely different sets of stories!)

Yeah, the idea for RPG was like an angled-top-down view, click-to-move-and-attack, questy sort of game. We really want to make it an RPG, and the VN is just to show the writing work that's been done so far, hopefully.

Well, after some changes in the team structure, I'm now the website designer (Website is nearly done, I just need to wait for college to let up so I can finish it) and the coder for RenP'y. The game is now going the RenP'y route because the original coder and one writer is no longer involved with us. That also means no more 3D sprites / 3D world. It's going to be like a VN with RPG elements on it (Well, assuming we get it working).

I'm looking forward to this project, considering how many hours I've put into the website and Laniessa has put into the art for this game.
