What's your background list? I really love doing backgrounds. It does take me a while, though.

Tsundere Lightning - Ohh, I didn't know that...xDD;;

JinzouTamashii - Well, I'm still working on the script at the moment, so I don't know what all I'll need just yet. Mind showing me some examples, though?

Projects: Multiple. Most finished, some pending.
If anyone wants, they can give me a PM with their e-mail, and I can send them the samples I gave.

Your coloring style has a realistic sort of feel to it. Quite nice, but I'm not entirely sure if that's what I'm going for.

It'd probably be best to locate a sprite artist first, in any case. Definitely want to make sure the styles meld well together...XP

I'm capable of any kind of coloring style actually. I can do traditional cel shading like in anime, vectors, gradients, digital paintings only in Photoshop, backgrounds with soft shading and lines, backgrounds like traditional oil and canvas...

The sprites don't have to match the BG, you know. Any drawn background will fit a character. Backgrounds only have different styles... look at Disney's Bambi. Cel-shading, lined, and watercolour backgrounds (gorgeous ones, too!)

If you do decide you want me as your clean-up artist, I'll make sure the sprites have the proper weight in any CGs.

Oh, it's definitely possible for backgrounds and sprites not to fit well together.
I mean, imagine having 3D sprites on an MS paint background...xDD;;

I don't suppose you have any cell-shading examples?
Either way, with that amount of flexibility, you're pretty much on board...^^

Not currently, no... but I used to actually paint the cels back when we still did that stuff by hand!...

I mean, there's not much to cel shading, if you already know how light sources work... it's probably the easiest, cheapest, laziest way to shade something besides not using any shadows like in American cartoons.

But I'm stretched thin because of many projects, so I can't be swift on this one... No shading on the below, but the colors are blocked in. The cel-shading would be just another area of color, basically.

This, in other words.

Sorry, this just looks bad to me but I think it gets the point across. Good cel-shading example would be http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1253873920/tt0120794 on the Prince.

Ah, The Prince of Egypt. Great. Freaking. Movie.
Ahem, in any case, I know what cell-shading is, of course...xD;;

The backgrounds don't necessarily have to be cell-shaded. I haven't quite figured out what style I would like to use as of yet.

I don't want to overload you, though...

Looks like I've found myself a sprite artist!
Blankd, who is also the leader of the Advocate project.

Sweet.

Not possible anymore. I'm inexhaustible. I usually only sleep 4-5 hours a night.

In terms of style, what about a very gentle watercolour look? Soft brown or blue lines?

What's your background list? How exhaustive is it?

Damn it, I keep on ending up on all the scifi projects, lol.

I kind of like speed-painted backgrounds (such as this).

I won't post the background list here, but I will say that as there aren't very many endings, the list certainly won't be exhaustive. However, each ending is very different, so they will require at least a few different backgrounds amongst them.

Also, I have a question: what do you think the dimensions of the sprites should be? The character artist asked me, and I know that I made the mistake of not specifying in the past, only to realize that while the sprites looked fine on their own, they were too short in the game...

250x600 on a 800x600 game.

Icons should be 200x200 (my mistake :( ... I'm making my own interface, though.)

We can add a frame to the bottom and you can make a custom position 200 pixels higher than that so the box will cover none of the background and none of the sprite.

If I know in advance, the BGs can be made 800x400, widescreen style like Narcissu.

My speed paintings in Photoshop and ArtRage leave in heavy strokes. That artist has used a lot of airbrush and I don't care for airbrushing.
