Cobblestones are used because they're cheap, but they're also pretty crappy to walk, ride or drive a cart over, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the richer parts of a city like Paris in the late 1800s had flagstone or stone mosaic (apparently called 'sett') paving.

I'd have to do some research on sett and when/where it came into use. They use concrete slabs here as well, mostly on bridges or places where the temperature range isn't overlarge on a daily basis.

EDIT: A quick look-see at Brittanica reveals that naturally occurring asphalts were in limited use as early as 1824, but widespread use wouldn't come for nearly a century thereafter. The Champs de Elysees was paved with asphalt of some sort in 1824. Cobbles were in common use through most of Europe(France included) until the automobile created more demands than they could handle in the early 20th Century. sett may have been used in the richer areas (in fact it wouldn't surprise me if it were), but most common areas were probably cobble or other similar materials.

I am so for this. I loved the Phantom of the Opera. When I first bought the dvd I re-watched it so many times. The phantom is such an amazing character in my opinion, and I hated the fact that the girl ended up getting together with that goody two shoed guy.

Anyways, I hope to see this in production soon. : )

If you need a Raoul voice, I might be able to record some things. I can hit his range from the musical.
If you need a beta reader, I'm also available.
Good luck!

You could try looking around for splatter brushes for Photoshop.

One way I've done this in the past is to simply mix up some red watercolour paint to a similar colour and pigmentation as blood (remembering that if you want to show dried blood splatters you actually want a darker browny-red, only use brighter reds for fresh blood) and then use an old toothbrush or an eye-dropper or something to splatter the paint onto a big sheet of paper, then photograph it.

If you want running trails of blood, as if it had gone up a wall and dripped down, then just load a brush with the paint and dab it into the middle of a large splatter, then tip the paper up so the paint runs down naturally.

Adobe Photoshop elements 9 is around 70$. It lacks many features that the full Photoshop has, but it's enough for most people.
I started with that, when I first got a tablet and didn't miss the features that much.

Of course, Gimp has a lot of neat brushes, and I think lately it started being able to import Photoshop ones too, so you could give it a try... since it's free.

Well, with Gimp I think it's a matter of getting used to it, and use the right version. I have the latest one (I think) patched with Gimp Painter and other things. If you want to give it another spin, I'd be more than happy to help you.
I'll look around for blood-splatter brushes on Gimp, if you think it can be useful to you, when I have a free moment.

Portalgraphics stopped supporting Opencanvas in English, by the way. I don't know if you can still buy the older versions in English, either.
