(Unneccessary Stuff~)
Once upon a time, Tyran was busy fiddling with his VN. While writing, a thought dawned upon him. "While the story is going along fine" he thought. "I still don't have any character sprites.. I know! I'll do them myself!" The excitement lasted mere seconds as he realized, "Dang, I don't have a drawing pad.. and theres no way that photoshop would run, let alone fit, let alone install on this 199-something laptop.. And I don't believe that I have any up to par drawing programs either..wait. I've got it! I'll just use Microsoft Paint! Sure I dont have a mouse either, but this touchpad shall be my brush, and Paint my canvas!"
And thus began his goal to hone his skills in Microsoft Paint. Will he succeed? Give up? Stay tuned to find out!

(On Topic)
Sorry for the unnecessary exposition, it's just something I like to do. XD
All jokes aside, here shall be the boarding house where my creations shall reside. From the (barely-able-to-pass-for-a-picture) art to the hopeful next Picasso of the pixelart world. I would greatly appreciate criticism and advice that will help me become a better artist. Just try to keep in mind I'm using MSPaint here..with a touchpad. Not any of these fancy tablets or photoshop. ^^,

Without further ado, my first! and hopefully not last, creation.. Atari!

Just because you're working in pixel art doesn't mean you can throw regular rules of anatomy out the window, you know. The neck is obviously way too long and the facial skull is drawn wrong. The hands are too small and the arm in the pocket is too stiff and is longer than the other arm.

Also, be very careful with the colour selection when working with pixel art. You need to be very sure your colours are not over saturated. All of the colours in the sprite have this problem. Also, you need to learn to dither, which is a skill in of itself. You can't use pixel art as an escape from learning art, since it takes years of practice to become good, regardless of which style you're trying to work in.

Try to paint more shadows and lights. You could add eyebrows too :D .

Pixel Art is harder than it looks, I tried to paint like that several times and I failed. I know it must have been very difficult for you to draw this picture since you didn't use a tablet :( .

aside from the anatomy problems
The one thing that bothers me is the black outline, and the chunky bits of outline in certain areas

ya see where i circled, is those odd chunky bits
makes it look jagged in weird,

pixel art isn't just drawing in MS paint. it's harder because you have to pay attention to the pixels
pick your colours carefully, On rule, never use default Paint colors :V
, and dont just use black outlines, it looks weird. for the skin, use a darker skin tone to outline, etc.
take a look at the pixel sprites from Pokemon games and such,

i found this tutorial online, its for PS, but im sure you can get those same results in Paint.

you're using a touch pad no? I think you should at least use a mouse. it'll make your life easier ouo

o.o Now that I look back on here I really did make a lot of anatomical errors. D:
I've spent a few hours looking at some anatomy tutorials and have pixeled up another drawing. Hopefully this one is more anatomically pleasing than my previous one.

And thank you very much for the link Pyon! It really helped me with my lines! They're much nicer looking now i believe.

Here is Atari's sister Laurel. I didn't color her in yet because i want to make sure I address the important anatomy issues before I even think of foolishly worrying about coloring. Well guys, how's this one? Any better? What do I need to fix up/work on improving?
