Okay, I'm tossing my hat in the ring too!

The Visitor

Update! The Horror spoof has turned into a full b-grade Horror.
-- The plot has become way more complicated than I ever expected and two characters have died (off-screen, of course) -- though they did earn it.

Beyond that, he's a pretty normal guy -- for a vampire.

Okay, so what's so bad about this game?
-- Well, to start with, the images are all grainy, blurry, and in grayscale because the bulk of them are from the 1931 Dracula starring Bela Lugosi. Well, most of them are. I tossed in a few random others for flavor. What makes them so bad is that I scrounged every single image from the Internet. Not a wholesome or copyright free source.

Also, I didn't plot out anything ahead of time -- and I always plot the story before I go looking for images. What I did instead was piece together a story from the images I had scrounged. Oddly enough, even though I used the images straight from a specific movie, the story I came up with didn't even come close to the old vampire classic. Well, other than the fact that there is a vampire in it. Surprise! Naturally, I had to give it the blandest title I could think of.

Ready for more? No voice acting. I just don't have the equipment for that. Although it would have been pretty funny to have a female --the same female-- doing the voices of all the guys as well as the girls. Oh, and just so you know, the music fits some of the time.

In addition, there are no character sprites at all. Rather than take the time to meticulously color, then cut out all the characters from their backgrounds, (like I usually do,) I just slapped the images, pretty much as-is, on a gray background. Okay, so I did do a bit of trimming and resizing to make the images fit. However, all the hideous pixillation and blurriness that comes with using old black and white movie images are still there!

One last thing! The font I used. It's pretty and easy to read, but there appears to be no visible difference between the commas and periods. Fun, ne?

So! Considering all that, I hope you enjoy playing it anyway, for laughs if nothing else.

I'd totally volunteer to do that.

You can hear my totally professional-ish voice (ok, not even close) on my Let's Play videos: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... e=view_all

Wow... Your voice is awesome! And I mean that literally. I was in awe the entire time I listened because I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing.

I don't know if my humble game is ready for the awesomeness of your skills, but I will definitely consider you!

Thank you! The idea for the theme was old black and white movies, complete with chapter placards.

I didn't actually intend to go for 'funny', more like sarcastic, but the story warped into an 'Only sane man in the room' trope. I liked the results so I stayed with it.

OokamiKasumi, I am definitely looking forward to playing that.

Meanwhile... doomsday draws ever closer. The theme song has been recorded (YEAH I WENT THERE), nearly all of the voice acting is complete and programmed in... a few more images and we'll be pretty much set!

It's even looking like there could be a Very Special Release sometime tomorrow...

While you wait, though, please feast your eyes on this glorious screenshot from the opening video.

EDIT: Oh dear, the game folder is currently 41.9 MB. That's pretty huge for a kusoge, isn't it? Maybe I should just try to make a video? :(

I can't speak for other people, but that's a 4 or 5 second download for me.
I guess the acceptable sizes for games would be a good topic for another... Topic.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to finishing it. The damned thing is living up to it's characters in that it's very swiftly becoming a Monster.

Your game looks awesome. I love wolfies!

Uh-oh... I think I might be in trouble. My game file is 141 MB, and it's not done yet.

Argh I know! At first I was all like "zomg this will be easy!" Then I realized all the components that have to go into it, and the testing... argh... so much monotonous testing for little things I missed here and there... the syncing issues... the humanity... I've never made it to this stage of game production before, but I now have about a gazillion times more respect and gratitude for the finished games that do exist. Coming up with ideas is fun... writing is fun... drawing can be fun... putting it together is even fun at first, but now... now, I'm so sick of it I hardly want to look at it, lol!

Kekeke... not sure if you'll love this wolfy... he's quite a ruffian

I keep trying to remember that this is for "The worst VN/KN ever created" and stop myself after the first pass. :)

I must go -- my cats wants to play "Throw" with me. (He doesn't play "Fetch")

Ahh, I know! When I started it, I was like "Whatever! This is just to be silly. I'll go with the first idea/drawing I have!" By the end, I was back to my old ways. "This... has... to be perfect... *trembling*" Fortunately, I staved off the beast for the most part. XD

An interesting observation was that I didn't get that bad until I actually began to care about the characters. It's not looking good for my other stories.

I could recommend that you set yourself a time limit for different parts of the game, and make the limits quite short. That way you can't go overboard.

Just cuz something has a gazillion assets does not mean it's Good.
-- The biggest issue is that the pictures came from all over the place; from grabs off the internet to blurry screencaps from the movie on Netflix. Because of this, the contrast is all over the place; some too dark, some too light, then some are crystal clear and others completely out of focus, while some are super fine grain verses super thick grainy.

It'll be interesting to see what people think of it.
