Tips on how to create a team for creating visual novels?

#1 Post by poohe »

I'd love to gather a team to create visual novels (irl OR internet, doesn't really matter) but how do I go about recruiting people to work with me? I can personally only do the programming part and will need other people to do the other parts like music and art. Where should I look and what should I say? Any other advice would be really appreciated. Thanks. :)

Make enough money and hire people. Alternatively, make enough to create a demo and then do a Kickstarter to hire them.

Either pay them, or convince them that the project is something they want to work on and that they'd love to do it as a team without pay.

Some places to find people are, well here on the forums of course, but also you can find artists and writers on Deviantart and Tumblr. Three of my artists I found or knew on Deviantart. You can also make a post in reddit's dev threads, which is where I found my programmer... but reddit can be hit or miss from what I've heard.

If you already have a story idea or have a story written, you would need to tell people what it's going to be about along with what style of art or music you're looking for. This will not only save people time from messaging you that might be interested, but yourself too. Some people will only work in certain genres and character types, so they'll need to know that in advance. You'll also have to let them know what form of payment they'll get for providing their services to you. Either this will be actual cash or a trade in services. You won't find many people that will work for free unless they're really, really interested in the game and don't care to be paid.

What made me react is this:

Have you asked some of your friends? Maybe they have skills of their own (art and stuffs). That's how I did it after all... Sometimes your friends have hidden skills, and if you can get them interested into VN, then you may be able to makeyour team.
Otherwise, you got the best advices on how to hire them :)
Good luck!
