I'm just curious, has there ever been a universal character? What I mean is, a character that famous among the ren'py folks that has been used in many different, unrelated games? Kinda like Cid from Final Fantasy, but this time with different creators.

If not, would anyone be interested? Maybe we can base them loosely on someone well known in the LemmaSoft forum...

Hm... Uncle Mugen? As for non-users, a lot of people use Vocaloids (I'm not so sure about there though)...

Lucy, the original Ren'py mascot shows up in a lot of Mugen's stuff as well as Real Life: A Bishoujo Adventure.

Are there any rules about using Lucy in our own games? Or maybe commonly agreed-upon characteristics?

What's the point in doing this though?

The same reason we do most things: for fun.
Plus having a character like this could be seen as an in-joke, and a respectful nod to the rest of the ren'py game creators.

Ah, I see, well I guess that works? I've just usually seen it used in things by one studio/creator.

Though I wonder if it won't just have the opposite effect? Because then people associate everything that character appears in with each other, so you may become dependant on each others' success?

I don't know, but it's good to think about it well before you do anything :).

Absolutely. I have no plans right now, I just wanted to throw the idea out there to see what happens.

I know she isn't specific to VNs or Ren'py (in fact, I don't think I've ever seen her in a vn), but have you heard of Jenny Everywhere?

She's theoretically the same character, just in different realities. Personally, I would like to see her a lot more, but I can see why creators would find it hard to fit her in while still acknowledging who she is.

I have been thinking about the same thing, myself. Something like Tezuka's Star System would be really fun, but I wonder if some kind of vetting system wouldn't be needed.

Pretty much open and you are free to do as you wish but there are several things needed to be considered since there are currently two (2) existing Lucy's. Also, please keep in mind that the Lucy on the left is already deceased (I'm just waiting for the right time to release this VN and properly introduce the new girl as Lucy)

Image

Lucy (or rather Lucy's) are meant to be a universal character that represents the stereotypical side character or is someone that is merely there to give contrast to the main character or a sidekick or a partner but never the center of attention... Lucy also represents the current state of Ren'py Imagemaps. The first Lucy representing the old and now deprecated way of doing imagemaps while the newer girl who replaced Lucy represents the new way of doing imagemaps in Ren'py... you can think of it as Morning Musume where the girls are regularly replaced except in this case the girls will assume the identity of Lucy and will be known as Lucy...

The current setting is Eileen will be oblivious to what's going on in the background and as far as she's concerned there is only one Lucy and it's the same Lucy she's working with since 2005. The transition went so smoothly that she didn't realize the fact that the current Lucy is not the same Lucy and is a different person wearing the same Hime-Style wig the original Lucy wore... of course she will eventually realize this but I won't spoil you people... until I release this VN (Lamest of Lame)

To summarize... you can do whatever you want since Lucy actually belongs to the Community in the first place... I'm just merely guiding and maintaining her existance... :)

Funfact :!: Lucy was originally created by PyTom to demonstrate the imagemap function for the original Ren'py...
