Hahaha I was thinking of doing the same thing some time ago...

If the pony maker can do it, so can you. I just don't know the specific code you would have to use.

I'd like to post a suggestion for the CC forum rules here (to keep the actual rules thread clean...)

Aside from having a fairly descriptive body of text with the free assets, the poster should also explicitly state their terms of attribution. Like "List my name in your game credits as 'Preferred Name' and link back to 'my url' if your game has a website." I noticed a lot of people posting assets for free tend to forget about this bit.

Probably unrelated but I find this very convenient tool in deciding how I should license my work...

Uhm... maybe instead of separate boards for art, music, etc... maybe you can make a thread and it could have links to various things.

something like this:

SPRITES:
[*]link goes here
[*]" " "

MUSIC:
[*]link
etc....

that way, you get the easy browsing but you don't need a lot of different threads. I hope this makes sense, not very good at explaining things lol.

That means people looking for something have to search through every topic for their specific needed resources. I think separation by threads (art/music etc) is more useful than by member.

I'm working on some backgrounds for this, but I'm not sure what would be the most useful. I've been working at 1920x1080 and 600dpi and with lots of layers to mix and match things with. Would 1920x1080 at 72dpi be a good size for sharing? Would saving the layers and transparent pngs and letting people mix and match their own backgrounds be better than having already flattened images?

72 dpi is fine for computer graphics! 600 is WAY overkill! I don't even use that when I draw for books.

Somewhere between 1 dpi and 9999 dpi would be good, on account of dpi not being used unless a file is being printed.

I'm less worried about dpi and more worried about the size and shape and if the layering thing is a good idea. ^_^

You illustrate books?

Kind of. I have experience with illustrating for magazines, planners and story books through random commissions or volunteer work, and I draw short manga books when I feel like it. All of those requires you to know at least something about print-work though, for which I've never used anything above 300 dpi (most printers can't even handle 600 well, when I use tones it screws them up).

I think you're great for picking full HD, so I'd stay stick to that. Also, why not give the following formats: the .psd file in which they can mess with layers themselves (so don't merge them) + a zip file with pngs for people who don't have those programs? SAI also opens psd files, so it's pretty convenient.

I didn't know that. I'll offer zip, psd and xcf then. I may post the pngs in the CC board anyway, since it'll take a long time to get all the pieces done and it can be used before that. Thanks.

Sorry to necro this thread, but the Creative Commons board has had 2 pages for quite some time and I'm starting to have difficulty finding some of the resources I want. There are even a few threads that aren't CC material (that one was a free request topic, how'd it get to the CC board to begin with?)

Would it be reasonable to make subforums there now?

Edit: Also, I can host some resources on the wiki??? It'd be more reliable than MediaFire (which is getting more annoying by the day) or other filesharing sites that have ads and whatnot.

Um... at some point? I don't have time to mod CC closely right now.

Sure, hosting free resources on the wiki is encouraged.
