Hello from DAZ 3D!

#1 Post by DAZ_HakDragon »

Hello all!

A little information about myself. I am Stephen Teixeira, a longtime fan of PyGame, RenPy, and visual novels. I have been a fan since way back in RenPy 4.6 days, always lurking about, checking up on new games, and reading the forums once a week for the last couple years. This is a great place, and I am always amazed at people's creativity. Someday I hope to make my own visual novel, with a couple game elements, something fun and creative, but artistic and well-presented.

A couple years ago, I got a job at a cool company called DAZ 3D as a quality assurance (QA) specialist. I'm sure many of you know of us, we sell 3d figures of all types, realistic and anime. Nowadays, I was promoted to run the entire DAZ QA department, including software QA over DAZ Studio and Carrara, as well as all of our content products. It is a fun job, and I get to work with artists all over the world.

I noticed many RenPy novels were being made with DAZ content. I am a fan of traditional art as well; don't get me wrong, I am also trained in fine arts and appreciate the hard work and devotion traditional art requires. I am also a fan of 3d art too, and I wanted to show our appreciation by offering everyone here a special 20% off coupon to any order you make in our store (good until the end of April, and good for all items in the store). Just enter the coupon code below:

RenPyLemmasoft

...before you think this is an ad, let me assure you it isn't. I appreciate all the hard work that goes on here, and we here at DAZ work hard to support the artists who support us. I contacted PyTom to see if this was appropriate, and she agreed, and asked me to put this special 'thank you' in the Game Maker's Corner. I thought of all of you when our marketing lead asked all of us here at DAZ about ideas to help all of the DAZ-related artists out here on the internet; and I asked to see if we couldn't get the RenPy fans something special to show how much we all appreciate your hard work and artistry. Being a fan and member of this community, I felt it was a good thing, and showed our appreciation and support.

Thanks for listening, and this is a great place,
-HakDragon

Of course. Can't you see that Pytom is a short haired girl? Yeah, I made the same mistake too when I first came here. It's only after a few weeks that I found out that avatar does not equal to self photo.

Man, that really would screw over anyone trying to identify PyTom in the real world.

The 'Tom' is deceptive, you know!*

Although, now I think about it, PyTom's site is 'American Bishoujo'. NOT 'American Bishoujo _GAMER_'.

:O

*I suppose it could be short for Thomasina or something.

Having met somebody claiming to be PyTom at the last NYAF, I can only conclude that PyTom is the name for a collective of human-like interfaces, embodying the physical form of a rogue AI. Written in Python.

And while you're at it, maybe you should import wealth, import fame, import a_lover as well.

I bet if Tom is the bishojo we think he is, he wouldn't need Python for the lover.

Eh I just realized that wealth, fame and lover is external stuff so the code won't work. Maybe it should have been money_making_skill, fame_acquiring_skill and plenty_of_charm that be imported...

Maybe he has a code that makes him want to have a lover even though he wouldn't need it?

Interesting. I've been tooling around with Bryce for awhile, but I haven't been able to make it do anything that I'm proud to show off. I still have a long way to go.

Hello again all!

Thanks for the welcome, and apologies to the forum mod...I usually go by the avatar, so I though PyTom was a she. I feel it's courteous to do so, so I hope I didn't offend. DAZ figures can be seen in many avatars, and our company does a lot of cool stuff in this field. We recently put out a texture converter so people can take character skins into games like Second Life, so it's fun, cool cutting-edge tech, and I'm happy to work here.

Bryce! I love that program. Currently over at DAZ we did a huge upgrade to Carrara 7.1, and we're working on DAZ Studio 3.0. We love our Bryce users too! Bryce has a long, happy future ahead of it, so keep learning and having fun with that awesome program. I did my first webcomic in Bryce, so it always has a special place in my heart. I used it for just backgrounds at first, and then brought those into DAZ Studio as my backdrop image. Bryce still does some of the best sci-fi and space imagery I can think of easily and quickly. I can render asteroids in that program all day long lol

We have a lot of codies and developers over here at DAZ too, and yes, we use Python too in our production environment. Our devs put in long days, sometimes 16-plus hours, and it happens here in QA too. Anything that can help script things and make our lives easier is a godsend. I even have PyGame installed on my workstation, with the icon right on my desktop. People at work ask what it is, and I always tell them, "You gotta see this...."

Thanks again all,
-Hak

From DAZ3D and we goes on to talking about PyTom ^_^
Well, just remember the general rule of recognizing users from their avatar: usually the real users has opposite gender of their own avatar. Since PyTom's avatar is a girl, so... (so actually, your rule is upside down when it goes with internet avatar, sorry)

Ah... Carrara... used to use that program in my internship in Japan. My employers were really happy with my work too and really wanted to hire me for another 2 years or so. Too bad it didn't have an Japanese language translation or I could have actually taught them how to use it.

I want to try out Bryce, the problem is I want to make any environments created with it 'walkable' and I am intimidated by the game engines out there... I was wondering what's the easiest to use in terms of importing your 3D model and using it as a base to walk around in with a generic third-person sprite.
