Long Live The Queen (sim)
Game and demos now available here: Long Live The Queen
Ingredient one: Everyone knows I was a fan of Princess Maker from way back. So one day, I got to thinking - "What if, instead of a game about becoming a princess, you started out as one, and the game was about determining your country's future?"
Ingredient two: Like many people in fandom circles, I have watched Puella Magi Madoka Magica this year. Which, of course, means that it is very possible for events in this game to go very, very wrong. For one thing, if you're only a little girl and you're in charge of a country, something bad has already happened. And it can get worse.
You play Princess Elodie, plucked from her boarding school and thrust onto the throne after the death of her mother. You have a year of studying and frantic stat-raising before your official coronation, while attempting to juggle political crises, assassination attempts, occult secrets, and marriage proposals.
Our adorable princess in one of her many outfits (there should be 15 when it's finished). She doesn't always look that sad; game events and player choices affect her emotional state. And her emotional state affects her ability to learn skills. You'll need to manage your emotions in order to maximise skill boost.
The long list of things a queen needs to be trained in.
Weekend activities (important for keeping your spirits up). There are more but some are unlocked through other events.
This is not an otome game - the princess may wind up engaged, as marriages are important in politics, but don't expect romance paths!

Re: Long Live The Queen (sim)
Very intriguing idea for a raising sim! Now what I don't quite get... does the game end after a year, with the player seeing what happens with the country in the aftermath, or does the player get to control the actions of the Queen he "made" afterwards?

Re: Long Live The Queen (sim)
Current intention is that the game ends after around a year and, if you lived that long, then tells the story of the country resulting from your actions. You're making decisions in events as the game goes along, not just raising your stats (but what stats you have at each event affects what options you have available and how successful they will be).
Which is complicated enough that we're currently working on a special optional feedback system, so that the player can see every time a skillcheck is fired off - what skill was being tested and whether you succeeded or failed. It won't tell you what the success threshold is, but it will give you an idea that "Huh, things might have gone differently there if I'd had more History points." Some poeple will find this to be hand-holding so it's intended to be something you can switch off in preferences, but for newbies it can be helpful to have reminders of just how much the story is changing by your actions or inactions.

Ahhh awesome! I loved Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King / My Life as a Dark Lord and the latest installment of Fable. Raising sims are always fun, especially if there's a whole country involved. I'll definitely be looking forward to this.

Re: Long Live The Queen (sim)
Yes and no... this isn't an RPG or a wargame, but people may try to kill you and/or invade your country. So, fighting may happen, but full-fledged minigame fighting, no.
This game is trying to be a quickie for me instead of my tendency towards huge and overcomplicated. So I'm trying to avoid letting fancy features sneak in.

Re: Long Live The Queen (sim)
Sound interesting ^_^ Though it must be complicated (and heavy story, with all those assassination plot and politics). One years sounds short... how long each turn take? A day or a week?

Re: Long Live The Queen (sim)
General structure is that you choose a morning and afternoon class for each week, followed by scenes where you deal with all the latest plot advancements, followed by choosing your weekend activities, then ready for another week again.
The year is meant to be short but frantic. There's no randomness to the stat-gain, it is all about the order you choose to do things in and how each stat affects every other stat... and it will get out of control and go horribly wrong and you'll start over with a better plan.
