This week were going to paint and sell it. Well, It's a painting for a charity. But, what bothers me is the thing, that how I can express my feelings with the painting i'm working. Can someone write about your experience on painting, or something like (Drawing,Sketching) and on how you work and how you express your feelings with it ?

Well, my art professor once said a thing I never forget ^^

"Paint what you want, literally. If you suddenly think, that fish should be yellow, make it yellow. If you thin, you should paint from here with the hand instead of the brush, do it. Your instinct is better then any planning".
And I have to agree, the pictures get way more beautiful, inspired and original

The second thing is:
If you can, then build the canvas yourself. You can make a perfect rectangle or a trapeze or make it a giant picture or really small. But you can definitly make the picture you want to make and won't get limited by the space and form of a bought canvas.

The third thing is:
Colors and Brushes.
Mix colors. And I don't mean a color, but the stuff the color is made from. I once made a painting with black ink, Acryl, watercolor and blood. Believe me, it looks totally awesome
Also have a wide variety of brushes, maybe even a palette-knife. And show the bravery to try and use them all, you will realize that they all have their good points.

The fourth thing is:
As nice as it is to have a absolute worked out plan for a picture, don't do that.
Take inspiration, have a rough idea (like making a still life with mushrooms) and then just start and look what comes out.
I mean, when I thought about making a still life with a kiwi, it became a balcony scene in Paris and a friend of mine ended from a orange still life on a orange plantage landscape. Another girl even made a totally erotic looking picture of a cut open fig.
If you keep open a back door then awesome things can slip in.



And the last step:
Have fun while painting, then will everything be ok
Enjoy the chance of painting and knowing that someone will happily take it (don't doubt the last one even a second. Someone will take it, and if it is you yourself )

Hello! First off, that painting and selling is cool *O* (and high-five, Filipinos! )

Hm... Speaking from my personal experience, I first think about what I want to paint, how I feel, and what mood I want to show. I think about those stuff before painting or starting a drawing. Strangely though, when it comes to actually drawing, it's a blank to me. o3o Aside from occasional thought of: "Hang on tight, almost done!!! >O<, or this needs to look better! " , I don't really think a lot while drawing o_o Maybe it's different for everyone ^^;

My suggestions for expressing feelings is in things like composition, and what colors were used. Like how darker colors may make a picture sadder, or warm colors for a cozy vibe... And in composition, for how we'll see the image, like what's the focus, etc...

And the things Destiny said in his/her post are also very good ^_^

By expressing feelings with art... do you mean your inner emotion at the time of painting, or the emotion you feel (or want others to feel) about the subject matter?

I don't know much about expressing my inner feelings with art, as far as it means angrily splattering paint on a canvas to channel anger. But I know you can evoke certain feelings by the way you render your subject matter. For example, if you wanted to portray dogs are beautiful creatures, you could paint a very sensitive and noble portrait of a dog, possibly with misty, soft colors to indicate feelings of nostalgia or sentimentality. If instead you wanted to portray them as vicious curs, you would obviously take a different direction, probably with harsher, more chaotic brushstrokes and darker, messier colors.

Since you are planning to sell for a charity and not just doing it solely as an artistic vision, probably a good thing to ask yourself is "How many people would really want to hang this on their wall?" In the case of my above example, you would probably get more sales with a positive portrayal of a dog than a negative one, since people who do not like dogs or are afraid of them would not want to hang a picture of one in their house.


Off-topic, but how did you preserve the blood in your painting? In junior high my friends had the bright idea to prick their fingers and "paint" with blood in their notebooks. Two weeks later the notebooks were in the garbage because the blood was rotting.

Lot's of hair spray first to seal to upper layer, then painting it over with transparent acryl.
Seems like no air can break in and with that no rotting.
BUT I also didn't "prick my finger" but went to a medical center and had it taken from me (the look of that dude was awesome, I tell you xD). I took about a glass full and painted normally with it after adding a bit transparent acryl to it.
Maybe it is that, too.
Or I was lucky.
But it seems to work with others just fine as well, if you search for blood art (I even found pictures made with urine, which also seem to not reek or rot at all ôo)

I don't know to be serious, my art professor just suggested this and the only thing that mattered for me that I never saw such a brilliant red on any of my pictures *__*
But well, yeah, most people hate blood or are scared of needles (in fact, I'm scared to death by needles, but when I wanted blood for my picture, I just somehow managed to endure it).
So no need to push it ^^

Unlike blood, urine is sterile. That's why it doesn't rot if it dries quickly enough. And the smell is gone after a short time too.

I have to give that idea about mixing blood and clear acrylic paint to a friend of mine, though. He'd LOVE to paint in his own blood but also had trouble with the durability of the paintings. Maybe this'll help him out!

My take is feelings come last. First you must study all that is considered technical and then you will have the vocabulary to demonstrate feelings. Art is intellectual. Imagine a writer asking how to express feelings. -negative comment removed by author of negative comment.

how can we help by painting ? i am good at painting but i left painting 2 year's back.. i want to help others pleas guide
