Anatomy Studies
Week 2: Human Proportions (Muscular)
Duration: 8/9/2015 ~ Some Sunday when someone responds. :p

-- Table of Contents --
1. What is this?
2. Additional Information
3. Current Study: What to Do
4a. Current Study: References (Links)
4b. Current Study: References (Photos)
5. Past Studies

-- What is this? --
As suggested by hiko27, this is a thread meant to encourage all artists to study specific things every week!
Many (including myself) have a lot of trouble dedicating even the smallest amount of time to actually studying
things that we draw, so, here came this thread!

Even if you spent thirty seconds, or even if you feel like what you produced "sucks," show it off anyway!
No judgement here--studies don't have to be perfect.

-- Additional Information --
1. Discussion is allowed.
2. Feel free to ask for advice or help from your fellow colleagues!
3. Multiple posts are allowed.
4. PM me here with links/sources if you think you've found a good reference picture.
5. Feel free to suggest future topics.

-- Current Study: What to Do --
Similar to the previous week, the study on the human body's muscular system is meant to be a refresher as well.
It's always good to understand the base that everything's built on top of.

(Topics will eventually focus on individual body parts.)

Focus on the weaving of muscle on top of muscle.
Learn their names, thickness, placement, etc.
Anything's fine as long as you learn something new!

Remember, mistakes can be made. Your studies do not have to be perfect.

Since it's the first week, let's just do a refresher on the human body's skeletal system!
It's always good to understand the base that everything's built on top of.

Focus on the size and placement of every piece.
Or study the difference between certain joint movements.
Anything's fine as long as you learn something new!

Remember, mistakes can be made. Your studies do not have to be perfect.

* Sorry, quality for this one is low. You can just google "human xray" for more things like this, though.

Woot woot! Yehey, anatomy studies thread ftw! I'll see if I can do my studies today.

I also think it's best to write in your first post that people can post their studies, and we can all discuss it. Or if they're having problems with anatomy, they can ask for help in this thread.

Niceee! I haven't done my part to this mostly cause I got so busy, but will do it when I can. Anyways, you could think of the hipbone as a butterfly shape instead. Also, the skeleton on the lower right, is it from the front or back? Either way, the spine looks really weird? It's probably because it looks as if it's in the middle of the body. Also, in my opinion, you don't have to go too into detail about the bones (unless you want to). The important part is to know how to move, what they're called, and where they're at (ofc knowing their shape is needed as well).

I feel revved up to draw skeletons right now ughhh. I'm hoping to actually go into detail into the skull instead, is that fine? The topic is supposed to be the overall skeletal system.

Oooh, yeah, that seems like it would fit better (butterfly hipbone). I'll try to see if that helps me better later. And HAHAHA yeah, ignore the lower right skeleton, that was me trying to bs one. :p

Of course, learning the movement of joints and whatnot is important. But, I personally wanted to focus on the length/size of bones and stuff, since I've been really lacking in that recently. (As seen by my super short legged people. :p)

While this week is meant for general skeleton stuff, you're free to go into detail about anything within the human skeletal system. As long as you (and everyone else who will participate in the future) learn something new or you're reinforcing past knowledge, it's all coo' by me.

Yeah, because if you used a heart, you could possibly forget about the pubic arch at the bottom of the hip bone. Hahaha, well, at least you're studying! GETTING THINGS DONE HELL YEAH

Oh, ohhhh, okay, got it. If it helps, here's my instructor's sheet on proportions. I actually think it's better to work in hand length instead of head since that way, you won't have to work with 3/4ths when it comes to the hip area and below. Also, skeletal landmarks (as dotted by my instructor) help a whole lot when checking your proportions. At first, you'll probably want to draw out the skeletal structure underneath your figure. It helps not only with muscle placement, but also imagining how the skin will go over all of that underlying structure, which will help you figure out which ones will be apparent on the skin, as well as shading and all that. And after doing it time after time, you won't need to draw them in detail as you did before. Heck, you can pretty much just use the skeletal landmarks in accordance to their proportions, and go into drawing the person immediately.

Okay, totally awesome. Will try to stick to the weekly topics as much as I can.

Finally managed to actually do some studies! Opted to focus on the skull. I actually wasn't listening to my Life Drawing instructor when he talked about the skull, but it was along these lines of sectioning it off into how it slopes and all that. I didn't go into detail because all I really want at this point is the slopes.

@hiko27: Thanks for more pictures from your instructor, LOL. If it's fine with you/if you think your teacher would be fine with it, I'd like to add it to list of refs for the next week (which is planned to be muscles+skin).

Niiice. When I first decided to look at an actual skull, I was pretty surprised that there were a bunch of curves and slopes and whatnot (even though it's common sense), since the image I had in my mind was the standard symbolic skull. :v

@chocojax: Sure thing, go ahead! My instructor's name is on the sheet anyways, so that's fine. Yeah, it's cause of all the skin. And most people don't have prominent cheekbones like Angelina Jolie, so it's not as obvious.

Also, wanted to ask is week one done or???

@King-sama: Woot! Feel free to join whenever you can!
