I've been designing my sprites recently, and they look fine, but nowhere does it say or give a tip on how big (or small) the sprite should be @.@

Basically, I've been testing various sprite sizes, yet they are all gigantic when shown in game, so what is the general sprite size to use...? These are sprites of girls, and obviously I do not want them all at the same height or taller than the males, so can anyone give me a reasonable estimate of what size my sprites should be?

Thank you!

The right size will depend on your game's window size. By default, the window is 600 pixels high, so your tallest characters could be close to that, and shorter characters proportionally smaller.

Just have your canvas in your image program set to your desired size of game window and draw according to that. :)

I asked this once. Didn't really get an answer though. People generally do extra large sprites that can be scaled down later anyways.

Pretty much. I always draw everything at an extremely large area anyways, as in 4000px tall. It's harder on my memory, but most computers nowdays can handle it. It allows me to do thin lineart and make more mistakes coloring xD I wouldn't recommend drawing anything in a graphics program at the size you intend to use it. It's too difficult to get good detail in without it looking overly pixelated.

I draw MASSIVELY so everything I do has to be scaled down. What I do is create a new document that is 3x the height of the game window. I then chuck each of the sprites in there, layers and all. I then make them the height I want the to be in relation to each other on screen. It also good to consider how big your text box is going to be and how much sprite it is going to cover up. I then crop for each sprite, delete the other characters' layers and save each one out seperately. This way they are all proportional to each other. I leave them at a larger size for Camille in case she want to do something with them, but all she has to do with them in terms of size is reduce the image height to the actual size of the window.

Just wanted to post and agree that art work should be made as large as possible. You can always scale down sprites and get good results, you can't go the other direction without it looking worse and worse.

Thank you for all the suggestions~

I wouldn't say I draw MASSIVELY, but in the future I know what to do now XD

I figured out the solution myself (I ended up cropping out much unnecessary space)

But one of my sprites, in game, only had part of her skirt showing (didn't really realize she was THAT huge) and I just had to scale her down, like you all suggested.

Thank you so much!
