This, all the time. I always feel like I've missed many chances to be better... Mostly due to laziness and non-enthusiasms. I gave up on going to art school, but even without doing art commercially in mind, I'd still like to be a lot better.

Thank you! To be honest, I still can't make up my mind about my style @_@ Every time I see a pretty animu picture/anything I'll rush towards it and be all GONNA DO THIS STYLE GWARHH. It's good to have direction!

Ooh, let me! Here's some cringe-worthy stuff from '09, the same character from '10, her again last year, and another pic from last month.

Obviously something happened between 2010 and 2011; I don't know what, but boy am I glad it did. >_>; She and this one other character have been in my head for ages, but I've always been so flighty about characterization... I've never been able to really pin them down.

I got all excited from seeing everyone's wonderful progress-

@Carrogath: No kidding! You've improved drastically! *A*

@Reikun: Hey! Aren't you the artist for TTG? I look forward to seeing your completed pieces once TWCC's demo comes out!

IKR? :A:

@MaiMai: Holy Snickers, 2011-2012. It's like she discovered Pantene Pro-V or something. XD Her hair's all shiny and full of volume. I dig your current style.

-and dug through my old stuff. OTL Someone point me to the nearest cave.

^ The oldest drawing I have. I think I drew it around the time I entered high school, so about...4-5 years ago? I can't even remember how long it took it was that long.

I see you there, 9:19 (ಠnಠ)

Rei's our lineartist and she's even going to do the GUI and stuff. She does have her own solo studio though and I want to know what GC!! is about for once >_>

Pft, if I were to do an art style progression meme, there would be no improvement whatsoever :'D I've been copying pictures and ruining them in hopes of learning to draw something decently, and that's going uh... we don't talk about it ;n;
Excuse me as I sob in the corner while staring at everyone's art OTL

It's pretty inspiring to see everyone's progress, particularly with the images of the same character done over time.

I have a character that I draw every couple of years just to see how much I've improved. Though last time I drew her in a much cartoonier look and it was so different you couldn't really tell there was much improvement (besides line quality and body proportion)!

What an awesome thread! Love seeing how much people have improved, especially with regards to anatomy. It gives me hope for my own skills. :lol:

At least I can show you how possible it is to improve using digital graphics tools. I knew close to nothing about GIMP and just a little bit about Photoshop, a couple of months ago. I literally did not understand what a mask was, that layers had an option called "multiply" or "overlay", how to use a pen tool, etc. etc.

I can draw a bit, but not very impressively. I knew next to nothing about coloring (either on paper or on the computer).

This was my attempt at a character in my game back in March. (His name is now Ian...back then it was Cody or Dylan or something or other.) Here is his progression:

I still have a long ways to go, especially with anatomy and lighting, but I feel like I at least can get something out that looks a little more polished!

Didn't want to draw pictures, did it anyway. To my defence, the first pic was with a program I never used and a tablet I didn't own!

Well, I stopped getting better around 2008, but I think, I improved a bit again next to last and this year :)

My progression has pretty much been a crash course fueled by too much free time due to graduating high school one year early.

Started with InkScape then moved to Illustrator.
Got my hands on a tablet midway so I started drawing directly into Photoshop.

(1) Inkscape
(2) Illustrator lines + Photoshop
(3) Illustrator Lines + Photoshop. Messed up on the BG and made it too dark.
(4) Illustrator Lines + Photoshop.
(5) Illustrator Lines + Photoshop.
(6) Illustrator Lines + Photoshop. A step backwards in terms of quality...
(7) Illustrator Lines + Photoshop.
(8) Pencil Lines + Photoshop. Test cover for a short manga I was working on, ended up wiping everything except the cover in anger after I felt it wasn't going well.
(9) Pencil line, Illustrator hybrid + Photoshop & SAI

Took one year plus a few months to get to this stage of drawing.

I feel as though my drawings have to be far better than the ones before or else I'll be labeled as a fake or incompetent. It got to the point where I was spending well over sixteen hours per day just drawing, lost twenty pounds that I couldn't afford to lose, and still felt like a failure.
Do any of you feel: 1.You are not making much progress. 2.Ashamed about your artwork. 3.Driven by a seemingly unreachable goal?
I can't be the only one...right? Right? ; ;
