That isn't true. There are lots of rights holders who will vigorously defend their copyright even against non-commercial ventures. Start doing a bunch of non-commercial games with Disney's stuff, for example, they will come for you if they find out about it.[/quote]

I've played quite a few Ren'py games with copyrighted music, and i've never seen anyone get in trouble or complain that they have been hassled... minus one person but "she" listed all the music so they came after her but didn't do much they just removed her game from a share-website i think due to "copyright", so you are right it depends on the company. I suppose if you keep it "hush" "hush" they'll never know. I also think that public domain music is the best to use... or the free ones and if that doesn't work erm try making your own.. then nobody can stop you or hire someone to make the music for you then you own the copyright as you paid for it.

Fiverr the place where you can buy music made specially for you, yourself and you without the hassle of someone flagging you and you only have to pay dun dun dun $5.

I'm not resting until I find
What would make your eyes
Glisten like mine
With loves divine!

Boo-Boo I couldn't aspire....to anything...
Higher...than to fill that one desire to make it
My own....Bop-Bop-a-Dop-Boop-Oop-a-Doop honey?

Copyright cases are actionable. If the artist or label hears about it, they may choose to pursue legal action and commercial or not, it is infringement. The rule of thumb is "if the artist didn't tell me it's okay, it's not".

There are lots of royalty free compositions online for free or purchase, as well as musicians willing to work. I would not risk losing a lot of work over someone else's assets.
