Re: Luxliev Music
I think that selling some of your first songs might not be the best idea. The synth stuff doesn't really have much in the way of sound design (in fact I can tell that all of the stuff is presets) and it doesn't really leave a good impression when someone's just starting out and expecting to make a whole bunch of money selling those first works.
This doesn't mean you should quit or anything (we all have to start somewhere) but it seems like you're trying to run before you can walk. I'd really advise getting in a bit more training (maybe a year or two) and then maybe looking at selling your work.
Listen to a bunch of the stuff that's already on bandcamp, especially what sells. That's what you're up against.

Re: Luxliev Music
I think you are talking about bandcamp. If so then thanks for checking out my forum. I've done this for only a year so I don't expect to make best music there is. Nevertheless I enjoy making it a lot. It's not like I'm forcing anyone to buy my music (especially when you can listen to everything I made on youtube and soundcloud for free).
This project is more like a hobby. I'd love to make it a full time job but I'm being realistic and I just keep doing what I enjoy. I do not plan to make music that sells but music that I like. That's not anything bad right? If I could get some money then sure why not. Anyone who want to support me can do so.
Many of my instruments are synths of course because good virtual instruments cost a lot of money so it should be understandable that they might not sound like real deal. Then again I don't really understand why people dislike synths so much. I like them quite a bit (probably because I played games since 1997).
I love music and I understand what I'm up against. I know that my skill is non existant when I compare myself to people I admire (Paul Anthony Romero, Michiru Yamane, Frank Klepacki, Junichi Nakatsuru and so on) but then again wouldn't you agree that it's better to try do something about it and get closer to world you respect so much than just listen/watch it from afar?
I'm pretty sure a lot of visual novel fans are here on this forum precisely because of that. I know I am.

I don't think what Noyemi K is saying is to stop making music: (s)he's saying to improve a bit before selling your music. And since you saidLuxliev wrote:I love music and I understand what I'm up against. why don't you have your music available for a "pay what you want" price, so people can download it for free if they choose to? Then, if they like what they hear and want to support you, they might come back and give you a little bit of money. Just my two cents.Luxliev wrote:I do not plan to make music that sells but music that I like. That's not anything bad right? If I could get some money then sure why not. My first completed visual novel, which is at 1.3, it's final version(woo hoo!): Monster Uses CPU 2
Finally at version 1.0: White Fog
I make one song every week, all for free download! This weeks song: Synthis- The Mirror(Eliana Remix)[Preview]
You might ask yourself: If I could only save one paragraph of the work I'm writing, which one would I save?
Which one would I let go first?

Re: Luxliev Music
Didn't check bandcamp in quite a while but I think that if you are buying music you can choose if you want to pay price shown or bigger one. Buying my music shouldn't be topic of this discussion anyway as I didn't even link my bandcamp shop page in the first post of this thread or anywhere in my profile

Re: Luxliev Music
I didn't say that synths are bad (I use them all the time) but I said that I could identify all the presets you were using. Try creating your own sound; there's a VHS rip of the Syntharts tapes up on youtube that you can watch to get an idea of how to create electronic music.Luxliev wrote:Many of my instruments are synths of course because good virtual instruments cost a lot of money so it should be understandable that they might not sound like real deal. This is more what I was getting at; the current price and page behaviour (it asks you to buy after 3 streams) doesn't leave a good impression.Haze wrote:why don't you have your music available for a "pay what you want" price, so people can download it for free if they choose to? Re: Luxliev Music
That definitly doesn't sound good. Bandcamp asks to buy after 3 streams or this behaviour is on some other page?Noyemi K wrote:This is more what I was getting at; the current price and page behaviour (it asks you to buy after 3 streams) doesn't leave a good impression.

It's on the bandcamp pages. This behaviour can be disabled in the settings.
