My first recommendation is pretty much everything from Celestial Aeon Project.

Celestial Aeon Project are a group of classic "movie soundtrack" makers. Their pieces fit well into any VN and are unique enough to work as character themes. I've found them immensely inspiring and very befitting for use in any sort of game.

Next recommendation: Frozen Silence.

More Finnish guys, this time specializing in quiet and relaxing piano and guitar pieces, pretty much perfect for any kind of romance VNs. Not as diverse as Celestial Aeon Project, but very gifted when it comes to writing serene tunes.

Finally, one of my countrymen: Marc Teichert.

Again, a specialist for orchestral tunes, very much your choice of composer for super-dramatic stuff. When you see a piece named "Epic Battle", you KNOW what you're getting. Marc Teichert deserves to be played on the big ol' silver screen, so if your ambition is to make VNs that could just as well be hollywood blockbusters, go for that guy.

All of these works are CC-BY-SA, so unless you're going for a commercial VN, grab them!

Oh, this music is beautiful! I've definitely bookmarked this thread for a non-commercial starter project of mine!

Thank you for the links!

You used Atmosphere and some others from CAP in Adrift, didn't you? It fit very well, I have to say.

I did, yes. Jamendo is my main source of BG music for VNs.

Latest discovery: MOONDARK PROJECT, Frenchmen with a taste for dark ambient music. Most of their stuff would fit nicely into a scifi horror setting; stuff that really evokes emotion.

*sneaks in, grabs composer and runs for the hills*

Joking aside, I also like using Jamendo as well for my VN music.

Jamendo is where I get my background music too!

My favorites for background music:
Zero Project
Epic Soul Factory

You can actually search by mood or under; Soundtrack and instrumental.

Music is really epic. Just the right thing for this theme IMO.
