Then you have to try at least the original SH1,2, and 3. SH:SM isn't scary at all, compared to those games.

And that's why I loved it. Less cheap scares, more psychological freak-me-out. Plus, as I already mentioned, an ending with true storytelling power.

THIS.

THAT?

...sorry, I don't get your point.

Silent Hill is Silent Hill and will always be good in general, that's why I compare 'em to each other :/ since number 4 in the series, things have been going downhill in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I've played Homecoming and Shattered Memories, I think they're awesome... But Silent Hill just doesn't quite cut it's old standards anymore...

If I have to be honest, I have to recommend another horror survival for everyone...
Amnesia, from the creators of Penumbra. It's pretty innovative and they bring the old tension back to horror at a quality that almost reaches Fatal Frame..

In all respect.. Fatal Frame is unbeatable.. It destroyed my nerves :c and I'm not a sensitive person...

Fatal Frame consumes your soul T_T

I started playing "Shattered Memories". I am not far into the game yet, but what puts me off is that all those 'momentos' and 'disturbances' you can find and take photos of so far have nothing to do with Cheryl o_0?

I do like the running away instead of shooting'em'up, or beating them to death. That grew very old on me in any SH after 1. We didn't even bother to play 2, 3 and 4 because it was all stalling and increasing playing time, by placing the open doors at the farthest end of each level and placing 'monsters' inbetween...

But I think you should play at least the SH2. It's the best among 3, 4, and 5 (3 is also good, and don't forget the konami code too, hehehe... but I think it's more action oriented, so you won't really like it -_- ).

I don't mind action. For some reasons I even bothered to play through Halo 1 + 2 o_0; We did play SH 2, 3 and "the room" (What's 5? I seemingly missed that one). But I stopped playing around an hour into the game, because I didn't like the above mentioned methods. I recall the shopping mall thing and how I guessed that always the last door was the way out - which it was / :

It's save to say, that we are all game designers here - even if for less action heavy VNs. Commercial Video games have almost 40 years of history now. While SH1 was somewhat a novelty of its kind, with next generation consoles my expectations grew. e.g. I played Bio Shock on the X360 and was literally overwhelmed by the graphically level of details at first... but it didnt take long to realise that this was just on th outside. The game play isn't far from SH1 of 1998... so much for innovation and using the computing power of nowadays technology.

I count "the Room" as SH5. And there's also Homecoming (which I count as SH6) and Origin (SH Zero). Homecoming is the most action oriented SH (with military background protagonist and with the evade button) though I haven't finished (so I can't say much) it since my PC is very old and I don't have XBOX360.

But yeah, Shattered Memories is really good and back to basic SH. I really love it and could focus to the story, tension, and the atmosphere, instead of wondering when the monster will show up so I can whack them or riddled them with bullets.

They all do, as soon as you figure out what it ALL has to do with Cheryl :)

But not in the way you think! :'D

*randomly pops in this thread- yup, I've played SH:SM, and I'm a huge fan of SH in general, so...yeah. ;p But I don't feel like leaving my opinion on SH:SM here . It's not that positive. >.> *
