Ask questions about one topic per thread, and use a descriptive subject. "NotImplemented error in script.rpy" is a good subject, "Tom's problems" is not. Remember to include all of traceback.txt or error.txt when reporting a problem, as well as the relevant lines of script. Use the [code] tag to format scripts.

I was recently trying to put a VN onto my Android tablet via Ren'Py for Android, and I couldn't get it to start. I recently heard that a possible reason was that the Android version of Ren'Py doesn't support older version then 6.12, and the VN I was trying to start uses version 6.10.2e

It might also be possible I was trying to port the files improperly. I was following the instructions here but maybe I didn't get the android.txt file right, or maybe it's the main.py I found somewhere?

To be specific, in the android.txt, I don't know if I got the numbering right on the version. I have api=61020 which, idk if I exactly got the numbering right, or if the e is important or anything at all. About the main.py, I took it from the renpy folder that the VN had.

Any guidance?

Edit: Also, I don't notice a traceback.txt or error.txt in the directory

Is the game showing up in the list of games?

(If it's Katawa Shoujo, it has a minor bug that Ren'Py 6.13.8 will work around.)

I suspect it will work in future versions of Ren'Py - at least to the point of running. I don't know if the interface will ever be compatible, and it may use some effects that Ren'Py for Android doesn't support.

Alright then, thanks for the response :) I'll give it another go once Ren'Py for Android gets an update I suppose

Actually, I'm not sure of that. KS seems to use a lot of movies, and Ren'Py for Android doesn't support those movies. It also has the music and movies packed in a format that Ren'Py for Android doesn't support. So it might be a while before KS - in particular - can run.

KS, does have some video, as to specific type, it's hard to tell. Conversion to video formats Ren'py on Android supports may help, but there are likely to be other issues as well. The biggest help in this regard would be for the Android version of Ren'py to fail gracefully in the case of unsupported video, through the use of a place holder image possibly. This would at least allow the determination of what else doesn't work, and would be desirable in any case due to the variety of hardware decode capabilities currently shipping on Android devices.

I do find it quite odd though, that there is very little open discussion of this outside of this single thread and this one.

In general, the KS guys seem opposed to people porting their game to other platforms. So I'm not putting any effort into getting KS - specifically - running elsewhere, except insofar as running KS in a recent version of Ren'Py exposed bugs in Ren'Py.
