If I were to create an animation and save it as a gif, would I be able to use that file as a background image or even a foreground image?
If not, is there some kind of script to allow me to do this?
Can ren'py work with gifs?

I believe the answers are "no" and "probably not". What are the advantages of using gif format anyway? There have been some discussions on this topic:
