A vbox is a vertical box, and an hbox is an horizontal box. Basically all the objects you put in there will be placed either vertically or horizontally from each other.

Hope this helps!

Before I ask questions like this on the message boards, I always do a search of the documentation to see if my question might be answered there.

For example, doing a search for HBox yields two pages that explain what they are in detail:

http://www.renpy.org/doc/html/screens.html
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)
