Need help getting the Tutorial game to work

#1 Post by shwippie »

When I try to open the Tutorial game, the script editor opens instead and says there are errors. The Tutorial game wouldn't do anything at first, but I downloaded Java and now Jedit pops up instead of the game. The game works on my other computer, so I think I must be missing something??? Anyone know?? Thanks!

What is the error you get? Did you install Ren'py properly? Try re-installing Ren'py, sometimes when installing things your computer likes to forget one tiny file that is vitally important.

It'll be really helpful if there was more information.

Hi MaskedIdentity. It repeats this error: "Cannot load: java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file". Sometimes it has a different error though? That's the most common one I get.

Hmmm. I'm not to sure about this.
You can try downloading ren'py again and unzipping it.
Are any of your file zipped in ren'py? If so unzip them all.
Also is your Java properly installed or is it outdated?

Sorry I couldn't help >_<;

They're all unzipped, and it's the most recent version of Java. I tried opening it on yet another computer and it brings up Jedit, saying: "UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xb0 in position 37: unexpected code byte"
These were both Vistas, but I got it to work on a Mac before.
Thanks for the suggestions x_x hopefully I'll figure it out.

You propably seem to have some Vista compatibility issues. I assume the Ren'Py itself runs properly, right? Does the Ren'Py Demo work for you? Also, have you downloaded the correct Ren'Py ditribution for your system?

You're mostly welcome :)

For others that read this, be always sure to check if programs's distro/archives were downloaded properly. Downloading many files at once, especially on choppy internet connections may cause files to catch errors in the process, it happens.
