:/ These are my sprites for my current (and very first(?)) game project.

I made the outer lines really thick so that it would be easier to get the background transparent, but I'm kind of regretting that because there are still a few white pixels stuck in the corners (THEY'RE STILL HERE. AUGH) . I also think I made them TOO thick.

For those who make character sprites regularly, how do you manage to avoid those annoying white pixels, or transparency within the lineart?

I'm best at tradigital works since my digital lineart sucks.
I don't use the magic wand tool that often because of the tiny gaps it can't reach @_@

Any and all comments and tips are loved.
Links to tutorials are awesometastic, too.

You should do your lineart and colouring on seperate layers, not on the background layer. That means when you are done, you merge the sprite lineart and colours (remember to save a file with all the layers so you can easily edit) together and delete (or hide) the background layer. Then when you save as a PNG, the sprite will have a transparent background.

However, if you are using traditional inking methods, you should use this method:
-Scan in your linework
-Use levels to make the lines black.
-Go to the channels and ctrl+click an of the layers.
-Go back to your layers and create a new layer.
-Click on the selection tool, right click and select inverse.
-Get a big, black brush and colour over the linework.
-Now you should be able to hide/delete the original traditional version and your lineart should be replicated on a transparent layer ready to colour. You may need to check for some clean up issues as you will colour in all dark areas.

Overall, I think your sprites are quite nice. I like the heavy linework, but it depends how it goes with your backgrounds. Good luck with it :)

I actually do work on multiple layers, but my coloring goes outside of the lines sometimes ^^; Kindergarten-level moments of failure aside, Thanks for the tips about lineart, Auro-Cyanide! I tend to get frustrated with trying to select all the white spaces xD;

No problem! I'm happy to help since I also faced that kind of dilemma. Though if you're not yet satisfied of still in search for some specific instructions, I recommend you to buy the book "The Way of Manga", you just have to look for the issue where they teach you how to work with photoshop step by step. I have two with me right now and I find it quite useful, those that teaches gray-scaling and applying colors. Well, it's up to you to look for one hehe :D
