-- I have actually considered using DAZ since I already have a process for making photos look more like art. Backgrounds I have no problems making. I have Google Sketch Up, a huge library of reference photos, and more than a little skill at photo manipulation.

I agree, capturing swash-buckling is difficult. Maybe we should stick to the Wright Brothers and Kitty Hawk or the Devil's Tramping Ground or the Lost Colony.

You could also do some sweet man-eating plants stories about the swamps there. The Venus Flytrap is native only to the area within 60 miles of Wilmington.

Just wondering why there are not that many guys here... This environment is perfect! Bwhahaha *_*

*sigh* It's sad to live in such a large country and have it be defined solely by it's main religion =_=; Specially when you're a pansexual atheist.

To answer the main topic, though, a lot of people who get into VN's through Ren'py are used to the more emotional/story based games than eroges. And, no offense to anyone who's made a sex-based game with ren'py, but a lot of the "erotic" games in the archives seem to be more about the erotic/fetish part than having a fascinating story.
One of the main parts of (good) eroge is to get to know the character and become attracted to them for their personality first. Then when you actually have sex with them, it's fulfilling and means something to you. It's a preference between saying "wow this is HAWT look at those boobies!" and saying "So this is what (insert name here) looks like naked... he/she is so beautiful."
If people make more eroges that are like the latter, then there will most likely be more interest in them.

Well for me, I'm bitter toward those types of games. It's because of them that most visual novels will NEVER make it over to the States. Because of Eroge and Hentai, that's what most people think of when they think of Japanese Visual Novels or anime ( even though there are so many other genres out there). That's what I believe anyways.

Badly DRAWN sex is just as bad, if not worse.

My personal opinion is that it's not the erotic Story that's the hold up, but the erotic Art.
-- Quite a few people can write sex just fine, however getting hold of an artist that's actually good at drawing sex scenes is another story entirely. Good artists of any kind tend to be expensive. Erotic artists tend to be even more so. Those of us making free games just don't have that kind of money.

There are quite a few people who can write sex just fine. They don't write hentai games.

At least, based on my experiences with 99% of the Japanese games available in English. egads! Nice art. CRINGE INDUCING text.

True. Very true in fact since the Japanese style of writing is very indirect. They don't detail or describe ANYTHING. In many cases, it's almost solid dialogue and/or first person introspection so the reader has no clue what's even happening.

However, this particular entry was on why there weren't many eroge / hentai games on this forum, as in: being created. As a game-maker, my personal hold-up is erotic Art. I can't draw anywhere near as good as I can write, and I just can't afford the artists who can.
