I Will Be Waiting...
[ Loosely based upon a true story]

"I was sixteen when I married you."
"You were a full nine years older than me."
"Back then, the age difference wasn't a big deal. We were engaged to be married by our parents."
"When I met you, I was determined to hate you."
"Funny how things worked out."

"Hey."
"I'll be waiting right here, okay?"
"So, just keep your promise to me."
"Come back soon..."

Setting: 1950's Vietnam
Plot: Linh Phạm was only sixteen when she was married. She met her husband, Quang Ngô, only a week before they were married. But that was enough time for them to find love. For four years, they lived in blissful matrimony, bearing two sons and a daughter.
Like a sudden force, the world was swept up in a furor at the announcement of the Vietnam War. Quang's decision to join the war left a hole in Linh's heart. He promised her that he would return and she patiently waited at home for her husband to return. The years go on and on.
At times, she grew weary.
At times, she grew heartsick.
At times, she grew hopeless.
And through these times, she looked to her children and her husband's promise for support. There was famine, there was disease, there was pain. But she went on and on.
She waited year after year and stayed strong...

I literally had this idea just moments ago and decided to write it out. I'm personally half-Vietnamese and this story is based on the bits and pieces of my grandparent's story that I heard when I visited Vietnam. I guess I decided to consider making this into a little NVL style kinetic novel. The Vietnam War will play a central piece in the story, until it's end in 1975. So this story will span across the time of 25 years. If I'm going to do this, I want to do it well because it's a piece of history for my family.
----
I suppose I'm looking for feedback on your opinions. :) I'm not too sure what to make of this myself.
(I feel stupid now, because this is sort of a fourth project I'm working on, even though I haven't finished anything else yet. Ahaha, getting too far ahead of myself...)
As always, the title is not definite. I'm horrible at picking out names anyways :p
I've never seen many historical visual novels so I hope I'll do a good job with this.

I've got a lot of photographs of the village my grandparents lived in. Not much has changed, with the exception of how the houses are built, but even then, if you were to walk around, you'd still find a lot of huts and shacks around the neighborhood. So plenty of references. I don't think there'll be any sprites, mostly backgrounds and a few CG. I might end up making everything using pastels, seeing as how I'm not too bad with those  so the entire piece may be an art project for me :p
----
The characters will be based off incredibly old pictures of my grandparents :) They were really nice looking when they were young (somehow, that was not inherited by me) so it'll be fun drawing them :p I'll post up sketches when they're ready :)

I'm not usually grabbed by story ideas, but this one hooked me! I love history, and this looks very interesting. Plus, it sounds like there'll be sadness and heartbreak, which I'm a big fan of. Definitely looking forward to this one *__* Good luck!

Oh wow, this sounds amazing. I'm actually Vietnamese and I hear stories like this all the time from family members or other Vietnamese acquaintances. :C (Check out the legend of the waiting statue!) Lots of music written with this theme, too... Anyway, I wish you luck! I'll be very interested to see how this turns out.

I'm iffy on some parts of history but the Vietnam War was always interesting to me :)
I might make more history pieces; Maybe using World War II or the recent Afghanistan War in the US...
If it's made by me, something usually goes horribly wrong for the heroine...
(Is it normal to want to shove so much angst and depression down the throats of my characters?)

Yay! Another Vietnamese person :) I didn't into my family's heritage until two years ago, when I finally got a chance to visit them in the village. I met my grandparents, who were fantastic (They're so sassy!) and a lot of cousins (Like, 12 of them in that village, and them some outside.)
Wow, that story is eerily similar to mine  Haha, it's not completely the same though, which I'm grateful for or else it would somehow be plagiarism, I'm sure.

I'll hopefully be using some Vietnamese music inspired tracks and be using NVL mode to write this :) I'll start production sometime later, when I flesh out the plot and plan how I'm executing it.
Look forward to the release!~
