Another short visual novel about Haru. This time you team up with him to work on a school project. However, in this night something strange happens. Suddenly you're locked inside your own room and a dark power menaces your life! Can you find a way out of your room? Can you even survive this night? Pay attention to your environment and you might have a chance to escape. Sleepless Night is a horror/psycho sound novel. For full game experience, you should play at night alone in your room and turn the volume up. There are no 18+ scenes in the game, I would recommend the game for 13+, but it is very scary and there are a lot of shockers in it, so be warned!

Story & Characters - Marcel Weyers
Music - Marcel Weyers
Character art - NoodleBrains
Backgrounds - Auro-Cyanide, Mei Miyamura
Spanish translation - El Lobo Demente

Many thanks to NoodleBrains and Auro-Cyanide! Without your art I would be stuck ^_^

Specifications:
Title: Sleepless Night
Genre: Horror/Psycho
Rated: 13+
Resolution: 1600x1200
Platforms: Windows, Mac, Linux
Endings: 10
Languages: English, German & Spanish

Haru is the protagonist of my book series "The Shadow-Trilogy". However, this story is not related to the series and does not count as official prequel, unlike my other visual novel "Soulmates". I would love to hear what you think about the game. There is basically no real story, you just have to find a way to survive. It's a really short game. Yay! :)
Thank you. Ending 10 is the real ending, and a little hard to get.

Oh Hurrah!
I finally got Ending 10!
The game is hard, but fun nonetheless! A nice short game (: .

It was kinda cliche in my opinion because many story writers would use "It was just a dream." to end their stories.
So I'm kinda bored of that type of ending z: .
Well, that's my only complaint though!

Your ZIP is invalid, the "general purpose bit flag" field is different for the local and central directory file headers. (and 7-zip won't extract it)

@ixWishing
Yaaay :) Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

I was kinda in a rush to finish it... maybe I'll update it sometime and add a few more endings. I had another true ending in mind to be honest.

@AxemRed
Huh? That's weird... I just downloaded it and it works for me. I'm using WinRar to extract, though.

It's not the download, the software used to create the ZIP is broken. It creates a file that's not valid according to the ZIP file specification.

7-zip happens to be very strict and raises an error, other software may not detect/care about brokenness.

Awesome!
I'll play it again if you update it (: .
Overall, the game was quite spooky for me since I had earbuds in my ears for the whole game xD .
I say you did a nice job using the sound effects c: .

After all the dying thing, I'm starting to wonder about the real ending, but I've got something to say about the screen that talks about your death. The text piles up when you play more than once, so by the 5th replay, half of it is gone because the block of text is larger than the screen.
I really like knowing what happens when I died, so yeah.

But it's a nice game! I really like how
your thoughts about Haru
really affects the ending, but so far I've found nothing important on the second search that can help me. Am I missing something?

Oh, and something regarding ending 10:
Like ixWishing said, the Bad Dream wave-off is a bit of a... yeah. My only question is, if MC remembered about the last night's happenings, with Haru finding him and all, why did he wave it off as a dream?

And there's no explanation as for why there were strange things/beasts that killed MC. When there's a spear killing you, you just have to wonder where it came from. Are they all Haru? Cause the methods of killing doesn't look like it.

So yeah, if you're willing to answer, I'd be happy!

Sorry for the late answer.
I put some hints and a full walkthrough for the 10th (true) ending.

Hint:
Be nice to Haru, avoid the vampire ending, don't be a coward ;)

Walkthrough:
Thank Haru for commenting your room - Say that you love horror movies - click on the picture in the upper left and say that he's actually kinda cute - Don't click on the notebook to avoid the vampire ending - Face your pursuer

I hope this helps :)

I stopped playing after about three endings because the nvl screen was filling up. As well, it didn't allow me to choose a different option for the Haru picture. I think a variable didn't get reset in the re-start.

I linked to a screenshot of the piled up text. Warning: it does contain spoilers!

http://www.thecatsweb.com/copper/displa ... um=6&pos=0

I think it's funny how the line right after it saying that you committed suicide has you waking up with a sore stomach. :)

I thought the interface to explore the room was awesome. I did get annoyed at it asking every time if I was done. It would be neat if you could have a button that said "Done Exploring" rather than ask you all the time.

The sounds were terrific and really added to the atmosphere.

The story is good. I don't really know the characters, but I don't think that really matters.

The writing isn't bad (Far from it!) but it is awkward in places.
From the screen shot:
"It's all to blurry to see something clearly" could be "It's too blurry to see anything clearly" or "Your body is undercooled" could be "Your body is hypothermic" or even "Your body is cold".

A very cool game that works well as a horror.

Susan
