So I came up with this idea two days ago and just now finished typing out everything I came up with.
Basically, I was thinking about a VN combining horror with romance. What if a dating VN involved all of the girls being crazy or evil in some fashion? But then I thought, how do you explain how the protagonist is running into so many girls like this, and so I thought, demons! And so this idea that I'm calling The Atrocity of My Love, came into being.
The story involves a teenager in high school suddenly being able to see odd features of the people around him that no one else seems to notice and it turning out that he is surrounded by demons, vampires, eldritch horrors and otherworldly creatures. This is because portals to the demon world, while they had always been around and were being used by the more hume demons to travel to the human world, are starting to open up more fully which is allowing more monstrous demons to travel to the human world
One girl is a sort of tentacle beast, one is a unique monster that has multiple limbs and the ability to alter visual perception, one is a succubus, one is a vampire, and one is the equivalent of an eldritch horror.
The first girl is sort of an odd one to describe physically. Her demon form has six arms that also function as legs, and it has a huge white eye that takes up most of the face and it also has large shock of hair that looks a lot like the hair of her human form. The two key traits of this demon type is their ability to change visual perception and their ability to generate cold and ice. Her human form has pale icy blue hair that is done up in a ponytail, and her body is a bit thin looking. The physical tell that the protagonist can see on her is that the pupils of her eyes are white.
This girl has great curiosity and is more often than not ooing and ahhing at the new things she finds in the human world. She’s also a very emotional and kind person but is rather private. However, she’s also rather skittish when something surprises her, and something a more observant person would notice is that sometimes objects get knocked over when she gets surprised even if it doesn’t look like she’s actually touched them (Her human from is an illusion after all). She is also an avid collector of things she finds interesting and she hates to see things she likes get damaged or misused. This however leads us into her darker trait, she’s a yandere.
A scene I imagine in my head is the reveal of her true form to the protagonist with the scene starting with her returning to her home, only to find it being robbed. Things would then switch to the protagonist’s view point, who is on his way to her house, only to find her in her demon form going a bit crazy and horribly killing the person that was attempting to rob her. After this the protagonist (Having not been seen) runs off and tries to digest this scene.
The character lives alone in a run down neighborhood which, considering her reaction to being attacked or having her personal space intruded on, is a recipe for disaster. I have it in my head that the person that was killed trying to rob her was also the friend of someone at the high school and when he investigates, it leads to the potential for a horrible event.
If one goes down this character’s route then they cannot fool around with the other girls or else it will lead to a bad end. The succubus character is all too willing to have “sexy happy fun time” with the protagonist regardless of who he’s romancing and if you give in on this particular route then it will lead to a very bad, yandere ending regardless of what else you do.
The main focus of this route is getting the girl to understand that if you care about something then you need to be willing to let it go as well as understand that nothing can last forever.
Before the game starts, this character had just moved into the area (Having come through a demonic gate).
The second girl is a tentacle creature. Physically, she is a disturbing mishmash of tentacles with various uses and can alter her form somewhat. Her human form is actually the body of a girl that she ate out the insides of so she could use it as a shell, her parents have actually done the same for the human girl’s family. As for the human’s appearance, she has red hair and her body looks a lot more mature than her personality suggests. Her physical tell is that her hair appears to fall in clumps that make it look similar to tentacles.
This character has a very fun loving personality and tries to enjoy everything she can trying to participate in all of the school clubs in one way or another. However, she’s also a bit like a child and she doesn’t grasp the frailty of the human body or fully understand the consequences of death, which leads to rather disturbing moments. One scene I have in my head is the protagonist wandering from the track field at school (This happens after he learns what this particular girl is) and happening upon the girl incapacitating a human that had discovered what she truly is and using a tentacle with a long needle like object on the end to “fiddle” with their brain by sticking it through their ear canal so she can remove their memories. The protagonist is shocked by it but the girl doesn’t understand the disturbing nature of this act. Point of note, while wondering where he tentacles come out of I came to the conclusion that the answer for this might be a little… yeah. Another interesting scene would be meeting her parents which could go into all sorts of disturbing areas.
Another point of note is the fact that she's basically killed the girl she's pretending to be and their personalities really aren't the same which leads to a lot of questions among the school populous about this sudden change in personality, especially among the girl's friends.
The main focus of going down this girl’s route is getting her to understand that people aren’t toys and that they can’t always be fixed.
The third girl is a succubus. Her demonic form is typical of a succubus; she has bat like wings, white, curly ram like horns, a thin spade tipped tail and black sclera. Her hair is spiky and of a dark aqua color, and she has tattoos made up of wavy lines on her hands and arms. Her human form doesn’t look that different aside from not having the obvious demonic elements to it but her hair color and tattoos are still present. Her physical tell is her horns, though they look smaller than they really are.
She’s promiscuous, doesn’t much care for social restraints, and is rather nosy. She’s actually the president of the journalism club and enjoys learning about all the little juicy details of people’s lives. However, though she enjoys learning about people and interacting with them, she is actually rather cynical about humans and their emotions. She sees humanity as just being run by the selfish desire of idle pursuits and this is actually something that makes her a bit odd in the demon community which practically lives by this code.
Though at first it seems that she’s like most succubi, reveling in sexual acts and not caring about attachment to people, somewhere through her route she starts questioning this life and whether she can live for something more than that and starts attempting to reject living off of sex even though this starts to slowly kill her. This eventually leads to her going into a crazed state of hunger where she, can’t really put this in a better way, screws the life out of several people in horrific fashion.
The main focus of this is route is getting this girl to accept that humans and demons can have deeper desires and after that, that trivial desires still have their place.
The fourth girl is a vampire (Even though I think vampires are kind of played out, I can’t help but use one for this particular scenario). She has very long golden brown hair, wears glasses, and has pale skin. Her physical tell is that the protagonist can always see her vampire teeth.
She has a quiet personality, I don’t mean she’s cold, she’s actually fairly friendly to people, she just doesn’t like talking. Her pastimes are photography with her being a member of the photography club, and food, which is something she greatly enjoys and tries to make other people value more. She enjoys photography because she’s terrified of forgetting things and sees photos as one of the only ways to make sure you don’t forget.
Still haven’t come up with everything for this character though I have some ideas. Edit: Scratch the holocaust survivor idea. Instead I’ll have her be Russian born and she experienced the Battle of Stalingrad first hand, some time near the end of the battle she was turned into a vampire. Throughout the entire war she seemed to be cursed to be a victim of bombing raids. She loves food due to the long spans of time she spent hungry during the battle.
The fifth girl is actually a human teacher, she is also a serial killer. Haven’t thought of everything for this woman except that she exists both to give a human choice in this game and to point out that humans can be just as monstrous as demons and monsters.
The sixth girl is an eldritch horror. Her true form looks like a glowing white humanoid with horns on the bottom back of the head. She doesn’t really have a gender in this form and her being a female as a human is because of a prophesy that I’ll explain later. Her human form has light pink hair and is androgynous looking. Her physical tell is that she has a faint glow to her body.
Her personality is very calm, cool, and calculating. She’s not emotionless, she just doesn’t allow her emotions to interfere with her goals. Anything she does is done to further her goals, nothing is a wasted action for her.
This girl does not come from the demon world but from a fourth world outside of the normal three (Demon world, human world, and seraph world) which has only now been able to enter connect to the human world thanks to the widening of the portals between the demon world and the human world. She, and a few others like her, have come to the human world because of a prophesy that states that in the coming months a human male living near one of the demon world portals will make a choice of love that will determine the course of the human world, the demons within it, and their own world.
Her introduction happens about two fifths of the way through the other girls routes and it happens out of nowhere. One day the protagonist will walk into class and everyone, including him, will be treating her as if she has always been around. This is because this girl has abilities that allow her to change how you perceive her, not like the first girl’s ability to change visual perception, but the power to change your perception of how things are and have been. Eventually the protagonist will realize that something is up though.
The goal of her people is to convert the human world into one more to their own liking and the main focus of this route is trying to convince her that the human world shouldn’t be completely annihilated and remade as well as trying to get her to not be emotionless.
Something I’m toying with is that if you decide to branch off onto this girl’s path that she will kill whoever you started with during the first quarter of the game in order to prevent their interference.
The protagonist has a very kind personality, so much so that it’s the only reason he doesn’t go nuts from all the horrible things he sees because although seeing people die in gruesome ways is horrible, he cares too much about everyone to hate the girls doing the killings (As you can see, this trait is both admirable and frightening). He tries to see if people have a reason for what they are doing and attempts to see things from other’s points of view.
About the endings, there are three types of endings in this game, the good ending, the bad ending, and the evil ending. The good and bad are self explanatory but the evil ending is the ending you get if you encourage the more violent or disturbing tendencies of the various girls.
The vampire girl and the succubus will have a bit of a rivalry going on early in the game which most of the people at the school think is due to a spat between the photography club and the journalism club but is later revealed to be because vampire society is blaming the hume demons for the widening of the portals between the human and the demon world. This rivalry is dropped after the eldritch horror girl shows up, as both the hume demons and vampires decide to drop this feud in order to try doing something about these new eldritch creatures that have appeared.
Perhaps have it so no matter what route you go down, one of the girls from another ends up dying in it.
So that's what I got, what are your thoughts on this? Is there anything that could be added to this idea to make it better or what?
