Title says everything!
So basically, I was looking to join a team as a composer, but truth be told, I am a true beginner, I have only just really started composing as a hobby, but I would love to get better through experience! Another thing, I am also offering my actual musical skills (I am a Bassoonist/Flautist) But I haven't got any finished recordings to show (They're all in my schools recording studio~) I am quite happy to play anything on the flute (Just no ridiculous key signatures though...) But I'm not as advanced on the Bassoon, I am more of a bass, single note, sustained trill sort of person!
If you are interested, I made a soundcloud account: http://soundcloud.com/kettletheteapot181

And about the music playing, if you want, I do have marksheets from my last competition (Both flute and Bassoon) If you want to see them, and If you are REALLY interested, I could use my Ipod recorder and play a few unnacompanied peices for you...
So yes, I would love to get involved in a project!

Oh! And because of my current ability, I will work entirely for free, but preferably with a more experienced composer/musician who can help me improve!
But As far as the flute and bassoon go, I will mainly work for free, and do all the editing myself ext... But I feel if you aske me to cover any more than 25 minutes, I would need some assurance this is a serious project (Finding time in the music department to record is difficult...) And with the Bassoon, the same applies (Playing too long will kill the reed, £15 they cost!!)
Again I stress I am young, and I am a beginner, and I am still working hard in school! And I'm not looking for money, I just want experience in return!
Thankyou!~

EDIT:
Also, I have on hand an out-of-tune piano, so if any of you want me to record some sounds from that I will!~
(If you want, I can easily record me playing something on it, but it's out of tune, if you want an in-tune piano from me, you will have to wait 'till I'm back at school...)

Interesting, you have some particular skills (I don't think we have another Bassoonist/Flautist around here) that will make your music different, and that's an important thing to start offering his compositions. And you even have access to a recording studio.

I would suggest you to try making some stuffs on a computer, that way you'll be able to mix some consistent tracks in your own style. Have you ever experienced this ?

Your tracks aren't bad for a start, but actually a bit "nervous" and chaotic.
Even if at first it'll sound too simple, try to just play some regular chords on the piano (an easy progression like C - Am - F - G). Loop it. Then, play notes with your flute and/or your Basson, following the notes of the chord, as some easy times (even like with basson, one or two notes by bar, for the C : C -> G). And it'll sound good.
After, I'll suggest you to try the counterpoint, well not a full song with it obviously, I just mean trying to play your two instruments with harmonically interdependent notes.

Good luck anyway~
The first thing to avoid when starting, is put plenty of notes and forget that a silence is as important as a note, and an important part of a song.

Thankyou for all the advice! I use Sibelius student to create most of the tracks, but apart from that, I have never used any other things, are there any good ones you can reccomend for me?
Thankyou again! :D I've been told this (In a scary over-complicated way) by my music teacher! But the way you put it, I understand now! I guess my chaotic and nervous-ness comes from the fact I am used to playing huge classics and stuff, I just can't compose them!
But taking your advice, I am now working on a basic song!
Thankyou again!~

Hmm sibelius.. it seems pretty popular around here. I don't know much about this soft but at least I know you can use VST (virtual instruments) to make it sound better : http://www.johnglossenger.com/TIPS_FOR_ ... LIUS_6.htm (maybe not with the student version ?)

To make it simple, you can have two (more in fact but wathever) kind of music, the one recorded (wav, ogg, mp3, etc.), and the one which define the notes themself, the one which the computer play "live" reading the file, midi (.mid).
Midi sounds often very cheap (the sounds doesnt "exist" but the soundcard define it, even it's generally the same everywhere).
Hopefully, you can "plug" virtual instruments of midi, and the notes will be played through them.

Free good soft that do the full thing (VST host, pianoroll to compose, effects, etc etc.) are for instance Macaw : http://code.google.com/p/macaw/ and LMMS : http://lmms.sourceforge.net/ (work as well with Windows) this last one has a good wiki and some interesting ressources into it, a community etc. : http://lmms.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
VST are around the web, plenty of website with them, some are free, some not.

If you prefer the "sheet music" composing and can't than the pianoroll one, it's also possible to create a midi with Sibelius, and then import it with another software to make it "sounds" good. The two I linked you can (I think) also handle your recorded stuff, you can put it into them, playing that along your composition.

And indeed, too many people get confused at start because they try to follow what they hear, made by experienced or famous composers. Keep it simple. When you'll overcome your little territory, then try to get a bigger one, more complex, little by little. But take your time, no one is after you and simple songs when neat enough are more popular than real complex works etc.

Good example, the song which got the most plays on my Soundcloud and by really far, was a 30 sec music box track (here : http://soundcloud.com/ziassan/sherlock-music-box).

Maybe it could help you, here is a .zip with really simples (and old) works : they are the ones I made years ago, just staing with a terrible midi soft, not knowing well music and stuffs, but keeping it simple (and well, most of them are... wathever) : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2379296/midi.zip (I added some random midi I found next to those old compo).

Ahh! VST! I've been looking for something like that for ages!
I previously knew a bit about the sound file types, but I've never fully understood them

And thankyou for all the amazing links! I wish I knew they exsisted before I went out and baught sibelius though ahaha!
I have also started to make more basic tracks to begin with (It is nice to actually be able to play what you write without breaking hundreds if reeds! )

Thankyou so much for being so kind and helpful! I hope one day I can become an amazing musician like you!!
Oh, and another thing, in the random midi stuff, there's a few songs I would love to learnn myself on the piano (just for fun) Would that be ok with you if I did that? :D

Ah, do as you wish, you can find plenty of midi of wath you want on the web also you know.

You'll have some hard time at start with the soft I think, so I'll say choose LMMS because of the wiki&community, here is the "getting started" http://lmms.sourceforge.net/wiki/index. ... ng_Started

And the best way to start little by little : http://lmms.sourceforge.net/wiki/index. ... _with_LMMS

Wow, quite nice to have a true windwoods musician around here ! I used to play clarinet, transverse flute, irish whistle, bagpipe and some light things like ocarinas... But I don't have half the skill YOU have ^^
It could be quite interesting to work with you, because I mostly use windwoods in my songs, and I don't get the feelings I want with VST. It's not human I mean...

If you want, check my soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/roganis). Right now I'm working on some kind of a secret project, if we can make something good I could involve you into something great :)

Also, music trackers are also good softwares to make music :p

I am not sure you would want to, but me and my friend are making a VN, and we need someone with even a bit of musical talent and you fit perfectly. You have an interesting style and I think that with some practice you will be a pro in no time. If you are interested with helping us, PM me about it.(I don't have any money to pay you, so if you are doing this to make some money, I don't think you will have a point in even PMing me)
