Submission!

"The END of the Raven"
by Edgar Allan Poe's Cat
A Kinetic Poem!
PsC_01.jpg
This poem is one of many from Henry Beard's "Poetry for Cats". That the poem was a published work was something I learned after I had copied the poem from the Internet and proudly displayed it on my refrigerator -- for almost 20 years. (If you'd like to buy a copy of the book for yourself, a link to Amazon is provided in the "About" section of the game.)

This is my tribute to a poetic Genius -- and Mr Poe too.
-- In other words, it's a Fan work.

Download from MediaFire!

Statistics:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The game contains 25 dialogue blocks, containing 262 words and 1,861
characters, for an average of 10.5 words and 74 characters per block.
The game contains 0 menus, 31 images, and 12 screens.
(If this takes more than 10 minutes to play, I will be very surprised.)
Historical note: Mr Poe did indeed have a cat named Cattarina!
Enjoy!
Sapphi and OokamiKasumi >> I thought this contest was supposed to be about making a purposefully shit game. Why your presentation even looks way better than what I consider a "normal project"?
No dude, it's that since OokamiKasumi is so skilled, that's actually the shitiest she could possibly make.
CORRECTION: too lazy to differ much from last year's style and uses a pre-made story again; it's piece of crap including lack of creativity.
lol
See my entry last year where I drew my sprites in MSPaint. :)
I just wanted to change it up this time I guess... and I thought that while I was at it, I might as well make some nice aesthetic tweaks here and there... *still, after all this time, a hopeless perfectionist*
Yes, See? It IS a Piece of shi-- err, Crap!
-- It totally lacks creativity! Okay so I made all the graphics fresh, but I definitely used the same style, it's a borrowed story, and this one doesn't even offer the illusion of a choice. On top of that, I used only very basic coding.
So there.
Then Do it!
-- 'The Worst VN Ever!' competition is perfect for raw experiments. Don't try to be neat or tidy about it, just throw whatever you have together and toss it out there. If it makes a mess when it lands, Good!
Thank you, but it's purely photo-manipulation. In other words, photos that have been Photoshopped to look like art. In fact, the images are the ONLY thought or creativity that went into this project. The story (the poem) was someone else's work. (Says so, right on the front.) In other words, I merely decorated a cake that someone else baked.
Unfortunately, this event falls smack-dab in the last two weeks I have to write this semester's paper, so I'm afraid I have no time to participate, as much as I'd love to. But then, I did write a fairly bad NaNo entry, so maybe it's for the best.
I did already enjoy Sapphi's and Ookami's entries, though :D !
Darn, and I was so hoping to see something from you! I love your sense of humor... To this day I still giggle remembering your entry from last year.
So I've been thinking about Dafool's complaint that Yumeko wasn't crappy enough. I was wondering if this could be my chance to experiment with patches for Ren'Py games... I could redo all the art in MSPaint and run the script through several different languages in Google Translate before converting it back into English again... additionally, dramatically bad voice acting of the New and Improved Translation could be produced... aw heck, if I'm gonna change this many things it might as well be a new distribution entirely but... I am so tempted now :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:
Okay, here is my entry: The Spirit of the Willow Tree, made in one day, following the recipe of lack of originality and, again, torturing people who are getting "sick of japanese names" :) .
This piece of cr... – I mean work has some nice touches:
- A genuine japanese folk tale narrated by Richard Gordon Smith on his book "Ancient Tales and Folk-lore of Japan", written in 1907 (now in public domain);
- Original music;
- "recycled" graphics;
- A fragment of a Hokusai woodcut;
- hyperlinks to footnotes;
- a font that will give you migraines and will prevent you from reading the story.
(BTW, the code is unlocked, so you will be able to change the font, if you really want.)
Damn...! I was waiting on your entry too!
My God, you were so right about the font!
-- I changed it to Mawn's Handwriting TTF. This font left in the wonderfully cramped, run-on paragraph style while only sacrificing about 50% of it's difficulty to read.
I really liked how you only had one background image, and the character images showed the angular edges of a very quick trim. The music though, was much too nice.
