Just like how Tsukihime and Fate Stay Night are not winning my interest, Lucky Star does not succeed in getting my attention. Admitted, the OP song is catchy, but the shows are a little predictable for my taste. If compared to Azumanga(Which is also a 4koma made anime), I find Lucky Star's jokes are scattered without any joints in between(More obvious in episode 1).

I shall give it another go for episode 3 before giving out any final verdict though.

EDIT: Oh yea. Overdose of chibiness(Ayu syndrome if you wanted to call it that) also bewildered me in this series. At first, I thought they are middle schoolers judging from appearances and speech.

I couldn't even finsih the first episode of this, i just didn't find it funny at all.
Though i do remember hearing something about them replacing the director at episode 4 with the same guy who directed Fumofuu. Though i can't remember where i heard this or how accurate this is, but if it's true i'll probably give it another chance.

I think I came to adore the series, because it isn't serious at all.
There are lots of fields covered in this anime, for example when Konata speaks about geniuses and bad boys who go to the same school or some other cliche that are mostly related to japanese pop culture.

Sure, it's not always intended to make you laugh, but there's always something more that makes you think "heh, what this character's saying is right". And the way they ridiculise their own characters ! Plus, they sometime use their own work.
I think it's a project they might have enjoyed creating because it's full of derisive parts.
Like the part when there's a girl singing the opening of Full Metal Fumoffu

Besides, I'm a big fan of Hirano Aya.

1st post. I'll try to make it semi-decent. Meaning no tasteless jokes. Today.

I personally love Lucky Star, almost as much as I loved Haruhi (Although I nearly lost Harulove when I sat through the "Boring Episode"). It reminds me of Azumanga, but it isn't a clone of it. Azumanga was... normal? Had a continuing theme? Lucky Star in a sense does, but it also doesn't follow up on one thing all episode.

You know what, forget trying to justify it's existance regularly. It has almost no drama whatsoever. No "You're the father," no, "ZOMG WORLD ENDING!!!!1111one", no criminals, no murders, no nothing. It's just a slice of life. Incredibly wierd life, but life. It's funny. It's waaaay cute, but not on the level of something like....

Okay, it's waaaaay cute. But hey, maybe it's just me, but it's almost the ultimate dose of escapism. I'm not making hour long debates about whether or not Konata is god, nor the spiritual ramifications of angels attacking (Neither of which happens, btw, at least from what I can tell at episode 11). And come on, don't we all need a little escapism?

Clean escapism! You show up, you play, you leave. It's my half hour of good, clean, fun.

Back to trying to glean writing tips from the ren'py board!
