Quick question about children songs

I've got a question regarding a translation, or rather a localization for our game, I hope this is the right forum for this?

We're using a little joke in our game:
The main characters are organizing a christmas party, you give each of the others something to do.
One of the characters loves baking and cooking, so if you choose him to do the sweets he just quietly sings a line from a german christmas song: "In der Weihnachtsbäckerei"
It's basically about baking your favorite cookies and some stuff going wrong.
We think most people in Germany probably know this song, so it's a nice little gag.

Is there something we could use in our english translation?
Some christmas song about baking that many people know?

There isn't one song specifically about baking/food, but there are some with random lines about roasted chestnuts/popcorn/Chinese food. The longest part of English Christmas song about food that I found is in "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" which has four lines about figgy pudding. It's well-known.
Literally - “We all want some figgy pudding, We all want some figgy pudding, We all want some figgy pudding, so bring some right here.”
Figgy pudding is a baked good. I've never tried it though >.>
I think carolers who sing this are being quite cheeky. XD

I... what? I have never heard that verse before. What. And I'm the kind of person who loves Christmas songs...

To the OP: I can't think of any Christmas songs that fit what you're looking for. It seems kind of strange that most of our holiday-themed songs tend to be about being with family, or Santa, or the weather and lovers, but not about cooking.

As E-l337, I've lived in the U.S. my entire life and as many time as I've heard We Wish You A Merry Christmas, I have never encountered that verse. ._.
I've never even heard of figgy pudding, for that matter. Goes to show how much I know. I did look it up, though. Apparently figgy pudding is pudding of the English variety. Huh. All things considered, though, I would probably say that using that song would not immediately bring to mind food for most of us here in the States.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any traditional Christmas songs mostly about food either. I do, however, know a Christmas song about food: Click!

I doubt this helps, though, since I don't think it's particularly well known. I wish I could help more. D:

EDIT: I just had a thought. I know that your original idea was to use a Christmas-related song about food, but that tied into your knowledge of the existence of a well-known German song that fits. Would a general song about food that's well-known work?

Really? I've always hear it with the figgy pudding verse. I'm from the Midwest, if that helps. I don't think they play it much on movies, but most carolers will still sing all of We Wish You a Merry Christmas - including the figgy pudding verse. Figgy pudding IS a decidedly English (not American dish) though.

The way I've heard it:
"We wish you a Merry Christmas/

Haha, well, if I recall correctly, it used to be customary to give carolers warm treats to help them fight against the cold as they went house to house. The cup of good cheer is usually a mulled wine of sorts (think along the lines of glühwein), or a hot cider. In modern day times, it's hard to get people to even come outside to hear you and tips/food are not expected. Maybe that's why those verses are less popular now?

That said, I wonder if it's a west coast thing? One would think it's a more New England thing (since Figgy Pudding sounds like a Ye Olde Englishe thing), but being a Mid-Easterner you'd think we might have gotten some of that via osmosis.

Unfortunately, that song is a rather modern Christmas song (by Rolf Zuckowski, the German equivalent to Raffi), not a traditional that had much chance to get an English-language translation.

However, have my translation of the chorus instead:

In the Christmas bakery
There are treats for you and me
Between flour and milk
Children of all ilk
Fool around quite messily
In the Christmas bakery
In the Christmas bakery

No idea, but probably as many as Germany who know "In der Weihnachtsbäckerei".

Really, if it's not a Christmas traditional, chances are most people won't be familiar with it.

I know a lot of christmas songs. I have albums of christmas music. I have to defend my taste from others who hate it. I certainly know the figgy pudding verse (not that I was very sure what figgy pudding was, as a kid.)

I have never heard of this Christmas Cookies song.

From the wiki entry, it is a random country song by one singer never recorded by anyone else? Almost no one will have heard of it.


Most people will have heard the line "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" but that's not really about cooking.

People who are into christmas carols will know the Boar's Head Carol which is sort of about cooking but not about baking, and it's not really one of the most popular carols.
