Most games I have seen have no actual real-world correlation to an actual structure. On rare occasions, someone will use a blue-print style 3D map so you can click on rooms, but the actual rooms inside defy reality.
I make entire houses in 3D, so they can be rendered with local realism.
This was made in SketchUp and rendered in Daz3D. Complete with working lights, windows and doors. Garage doors included. All lighting was also rigged. Details include air-vents, wall switches, outlets, window-cills, the entire kitchen and base appliances... The rest is all scene-specific and added as needed.
