To get this out: I am not a Dragon Ball fan. If you haven't noticed, my eye is twitching in my thread title.

I've known about the existence of this film since somewhere in 2007, after reading a thread on another forum, but you know, that whole time I ignored it. It was so much easier to ignore back then, because none of the articles had any pictures back then... Back then... I was bored, I reread the thread, apparently someone posted the link to the movie blog (I didn't know there even was one)...

I never really was too fond of Goku's character design, or really any human character design in Dragon Ball (though I guess child-Goku was cute), or really any character design in Dragon Ball, but you know, after looking at some gallery and promo pics... Geh. For those of you who think Justin Chatwin is a familiar name, he was that guy in The Invisible, which I never saw. Looking at the blog gallery, you can see he's clearly too skinny to be Goku. I'm not asking for a body builder who starred in 300, but at least a guy with more muscles... And the hair... I understand it probably can't be as stylized as it originally was, but when I first saw the poster with the back of his head, immediately this is what popped into my head: "Dude, Zack! He stole your hair!"

I'm appalled. I was never a fan of live-action adaptations of anime and/or manga. Because I never cared. But this is too much... And that image in the gallery? Which focuses on the Emmy Rossum's cleavage as Bulma? That really convinced me that this movie is going to be the worst of 2009.

Oh, and the blog has Fan Art. With comments made by actual fans.

So, how is everyone else reacting to this news? Shocked? Already knew about it? Murderous and out to kill me for not being excited about the movie, the cleavage, and bashing your fan art? Excited for the Razzie awards for 2009?

Which totally makes sense :D (sorry, couldn't let it pass ^^)

I only saw *one* recent picture with Goku and Chichi and.... yeah... just no. I had *some* hope because it seemed like they were trying something years ago, but when I see the result, I understand there's no reason to expect anything from this. I'm sure special effects will also suck muchly (I mean, they never get flying battling people right anyway).

Oh wow o_O I was dreading the day I'd see the first pictures from the movie. Well, I was never thrilled about it to begin with... I don't think it's possible to make a Dragonball live-action movie at all xD

This is also being talked about in anime forum I frequent, but sincerely, I don't think that this movie is going to be good in any way.

Dragonball isn't the only movie being made into a live-action film...

No comment about Bebop for now, but I'll just add a desperate wailing about the DB movie. I forced myself to look at other pictures of it, just to see how far they went and.... OHDEARGODS... Seriously, I can't believe this kind of thing can get a green light ._.

Oh... Another one? Well, at least the director sounds like an anime fan. And he's working to bring anime into the mainstream. And his name isn't Uwe Boll... That's always a good thing. XD That guy helped with the Matrix too, right?

I might actually see this just because he helped with the Matrix. XD Let's see if the project actually comes to light, though. Who knows if it'll end up like the Halo live-action. It might be better that way, though...

Oh, just a thought... You know how in Dragon Ball, the male characters almost always have angry expressions on? I think it'd actually be comical if the actors had to glare all the time.

Okay, THAT was weird.
Every time I saw a live-action movie I never feel satisfied, real things and anime will never be the same, or identical.
And that glaring thingy, omigosh...
Now way! That's funny! :D
Maybe I'll be Happier if Japanese people played this movie,
.....
in second thought maybe they won't!
Hmm, what will Japanese people say if they see this?

"...Hidoi na."
I'm guessing "na" because I doubt many women will go see this movie on their own.

They never learn (after Street Fighter and Gundam??)... I guess they just have money to burn.

But if they really do burn serious money, may be it wouldn't be too bad. We'll just have to see the trailer first. I mean some manage to be good (although they do not come from anime, like Halo, Iron Man, Hulk... long live CGs!!)

Anyway, now I must rinse my eyes after seeing those pictures... And my stomach has been acting up too ^_^

Yeah, me too.
The hairstyle doesn't match at all, they're so weird....
Is there any live-action from anime that's worth watching?

Practice, practice, practice. They had five Batman movies in recent history before the Dark Knight. Maybe if they keep creating live action movies based on anime they will learn at some point.

Equally, though, I don't remember any previous Iron Man movies...

I suspect the main benefit Hollywood comics-based movies have is that they're being produced in the same country as the original was. Firstly, it's likely they have better access to the original creators (or at least, current writers) and so on. And secondly, since Batman and Iron Man and other properties have been going in the US for a long time, it's more likely there are adults who grew up with those characters and hold them dear to their hearts, rather than something like Dragonball, which really didn't become popular in the west until quite recently. It's pretty unlikely there are many people in the US over the age of thirty who are honestly Dragonball fans, where it's pretty likely there are a large number of 30+ Batman fans. And the people who kick movies off and provide creative direction are typically over thirty. ;-)

Even the very first Batman movie wasn't bad, was it?

But Jake makes a point. Mmm... the DB cast does have a few (half?) asian actors though.
