Right now I've been trying out the ff
Shin Megami Tensei Online http://megaten.aeriagames.com/
The Last Remnant http://na.square-enix.com/remnant/pc.html
I want to know if there are any other Japanese RPGs (not Korean / Chinese please) playable in english for the PC platform? (Well yeah, ideally I should just get a console -- even a used PS2, BUT... I don't want to incur more junk around the house, and old consoles do gather dust after their use).
Thanks for any suggestions.
Contemporary JRPGs for the PC
Re: Contemporary JRPGs for the PC
One thing you could do is get an emulator, if you don't mind being a bit on the gray-market side.
You can then play classic SNES, Genesis, Playstation, what have you games on the PC.

A used PS2 is dirt cheap now (though that might depend on where you live). Sadly, my console has trouble playing the few games which were on CD-ROMs, such as Chulip, RPG Maker 2, and Taito Memories.DaFool wrote:I want to know if there are any other Japanese RPGs (not Korean / Chinese please) playable in english for the PC platform? Falcom's RPGs (and action RPGs) have existed on PC for years. But their translated versions are much easier to find on consoles -- such as Legend of Heroes, Gurumin, and Ys.
Anyway... if you search around, there's always Utawarerumono and Tears To Tiara. Neither got an official release in English, but you can purchase them from sites such as Eroge Shop, or services which will help you use Yahoo Auction Japan.
I haven't played the more recent H RPGs from J-List. I tried Brave Soul, and it was okay...

Re: Contemporary JRPGs for the PC
Old games, but these are kinda traditional 3D jrpgs for the pc. These are ports of the dreamcast/ps2 titles
Grandia II
Skies of Arcadia
And the older FFs starting from 7 up to 9
And yeah, emulators
Try out Rudora no Hihou for the Snes (One of the best music and sprite animations I've seen on a 2D jrpg and it was never released outside Japan)
-Tales of Phantasia (comes with an opening song)
-Star Ocean
-Chrono Trigger (who hasn't played this one? )
-The mana series
and then there are all those dos and pc98 titles but most are in japanese with no translation
edit: you might also wanna try some of these

How do you make your games? I see. Thank you for the prompt replies, but it is my considered opinion that you're doing it wrong inefficiently because I am a perfushenal professional. Do it my way this way and we can all ascend VN Nirvana together while allowing me to stroke my ego you will improve much faster. Also, please don't forget to thank me for this constructive critique or I will cry and bore you to death respond appropriately with a tl;dr rant discourse of epic adequately lengthy proportions. - Sarcasm Veiled in Euphemism: Secrets of Forum Civility by lordcloudx (Coming soon to an online ebook near you.)
Re: Contemporary JRPGs for the PC
If you don't mind going the translation path, there is this translation patch for two beautifully-looking PC JRPGs, Y''s 1 & 2, this would definitely be my suggestion.
Many screenshots (untranslated - but both games are fully translated):

I don't know how the game is, but it looks so pretty, it almost doesn't matter.

Re: Contemporary JRPGs for the PC
I'm several days too late posting this, aren't I? Anyway there's also Breath of Fire IV. And how about Septerra Core and Anachronox? They are actually western-made but are considered JRPGs by some due to their style.
Re: Contemporary JRPGs for the PC
Nope, not too late. You've given me more items to google, thanks.
